Where has the summer gone?

I don't mean .. .
where has the summer gone. . .as in wow that went fast. .
even though it did go fast.
I mean. . . why does it feel like autumn?
After a good bit of dreary rainy weather .. the soup pot made an appearance.
I love soup and it is my goal to make a pot of soup each week this winter.
I enjoy making the pot of soup and then heating it up for a warm lunch.
This is just one of the organizational goals that I am working on for . .
Have a wonderful day my friends. . . I'm off for my walk
See you Monday.

9 months. . 9 months-11 days

Our little grandgirlie and the lil' farm hand are the funnest grandbabies ever. . . ( you are completely entitled to have your own opinion of your grandbabies on your own blog)

I mentioned buying this little Diego car/horse (turn your volume up) at Toy Traders for $15. I have now had my $15 worth of mirth and chuckles. .

He has no idea how to steer and that causes him a wee bit of discontent. . those crazy walls keep popping up. . .

The little grandgirlie at 9 months is sitting smiling pretty with 6 teeth . . When she smiles, her crystal blue eyes sparkle through her thick long lashes . . . The lil' farm hand at 9 months minus 11 days is on the move. . . up the stairs and sliding on his tummy down the stairs. . last I heard he was hoping to get his drivers license.

.. .still smirking. . .

Have a wonderful day my friends. . I'm heading off for my walk. . .prepare yourselves. . come September you will be walking too.

corney Kernels

Do you all read the "Real Simple" Magazine?
It's one of my small indulgences. . .
The hint in the picture is one I picked up some time ago. . .
but .. next time you are having corn on the cob. .
casually ask. .
How many Kernels do you suppose is in each cob?
According to the
August 2008 issue. . there are about 600 kernels. . .
Oh and the fun part that I would have never guessed is . .
there is one strand of silk for each kernel.
I'm off and running. . .(not literally). .
maybe walking though .. .
as you already noted ..
we ate really well ..
on that. .
trip . .
Have a wonderful day my friends .. .

manning park. . .the best .. and the rest ..

The saddest moment. . .
waiting in hours of stopped traffic while a young mans body was retrieved from the valley below.
Knowing that his family would be receiving the news that his motorcycle crashed flinging him over the side was the sad part.
The bluest skies were the first several days and the last day.
The best time to pick a picnic table was during the rain.

The driest woodpile in the campground that we had the good sense to bring along.
(see the little squirrel?)

The best new find in the prepared food department.

The best walk around the lake.

The best man made addition to the lake. . . keeps the water in.

The best view while I hike.

The coziest restaurant in the campsite. .
our night to make dinner. . .
crab cakes ..
grilled beef tenderloin .. .
grilled veggies ..
sauteed shrimp in a butter sauce ..
Best guests . . .
Best geocache find.

Best selected item in the geocache container. .
thinking of our friends Ray and Becky who tried to convince us to scrap camping and come to Paris with them .. .
they can't say we didn't think of them.
The loveliest greens in the wetlands.

My best attempt at being helpful . .tying the boat while my beloved fished.

Best dessert. . .
Kathy made a Warm Peach Pie with Ice cream .. .

Best place to sit and pray . ..

Best help .. . that's our oldest holding the log ..

Best decision .. .to stop and buy a tarp.

Book I had to read. . .

Most interesting flower.

Closest I've ever come to being flapped in the head by a Raven wing.

Best view of our massive campsite tarp.

Best lunch. . I made Rollkuchen dough the week before . . .
froze it .. .and then let it thaw in the fridge. .
Bea rolled them out .. .and I fried them up.

Best find .. while my beloved ran into the hardware store to buy a tarp. .
I ran into a used toy store and picked up this little car for $15 for our grandbabies to ride on their first camping trip.

Person who loved Chocolate Puff Wheat Cake the most.
First time having a snack without mommy knowing. . .
We wondered why the little farmhand was having such a long nap in his playpen in the trailer.
He wasn't napping . . .he was enjoying his long reach.
He pulled the puff wheat cake off the table that was beside him. .
and proceeded to have a snack.
The pan was half full when he started.
Regretfully. . we cleaned him up first and then realized we didn't take a picture. . .
as you can see. . .
he still willingly went for more. .
and he never got sick ..
I had to smile when I gave him a goodbye kiss and the scent of chocolate puff wheat was still on his breath.

Best place for a busy little boy ..
.. . strapped on the back of his daddy.
Little farmhand with his favorite Uncle Stu ..
Future high dive Olympian .. .
(wish you could hear his giggles)
Coldest swimming hole. .
Our kids all came up for a bit.
We loved having them .. .
Stuart's best back flip off the bridge ..

My three favorite men in the world.

The most popular woman in the campsite. . with Charlotte's doughnuts.
They were amazing. .

The best meal over the open fire.
The best idea camping in cold weather since camping was invented.

The guys best attempt to hunt us dinner .. .
Kathy appreciated their efforts but made us Anneliese's Salmon recipe
with snap peas in a garlic butter sauce and risotto. . .
Cutest couple on the lake. .

Best looking fisherman ..

The moment I stopped and marvelled at God. . .
it might have just been a rock .. .
but I just stood there and marvelled at his creation.
How anyone could spend time in such an amazing place and not be touched by the wonder of it all .. . is beyond me.
I missed you all .. .
I wondered how things were in your lives. . .
and I'm glad to be back .. in my house. . .
where it is warm. .
We had a wonderful time with our friends .. . and our family when they came up. . . . .
Have a wonderful day my friends ..

I look up to the mountains ~~
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made Heaven
and the earth!
Psalm 121 verses 1 and 2
I'll be away for vacation but I felt I needed to ask you to pray.
A friend in bloggy world has a special prayer request concerning her family.
If you come by here and I'm away, take a moment to pray for this couple.
From time to time. . .I receive emails asking me to pray for different needs and I'm always so happy to intercede. . .
it is a blessing that we can do this for each other .. . isn't it?

packing for camping and the flower pots

Next week I'll be camping in the wild with my beloved and our friends Scot and Kathy.
We'll be visited by our kids for part of the time and they will be by theirs as well.
It was a wee bit tempting to post ahead pictures of our camping from last year.
We roughed it in a tent. .. .
this year we're living in luxury with a rented trailer.
Posting pictures from last years camping would lead you to be astonished by my ability to survive by eating grubs and wild greens.
In fact . . .. Kathy and I have planned a menu that will leave us huffing and puffing during the hiking.
I have frozen cinnamon buns that will sit out overnight. . . to be baked in the oven in the morning. .
Rollkuchen dough is frozen and will be fried outside for the entire campsite to smell.
Kathy has Charlotte's doughnut recipe along. . .
A tad ridiculous. . .but hey. . . .our husbands and kids don't complain.
The farm caretaker is going to be the flower care taker as well.. .
flowers are far lower on the list of what to do first. .
I thought it might be good to take a picture of the pots and baskets before I left.
Just in case.
So, I'll be gone a week and a bit. . .you all take care . . .

communication with an 8 month old

Indulge me a wee bit . . .
for the life of me I can't know for sure what the lil' farm hand is doing here.
Aside from keeping his chin moist . .
it seems that
a) has chosen to be a photographer like his grammie . . .
b) he has decided that he wants royalties for future photo ops . . ..
No matter .. .
he might be able to scale two flights of stairs and have a roll of bathroom tissue unravelled before you notice he's again gone from his play area. . . .
but I'm still quicker on two legs than his four limbs . .
I'm enjoying the fact that I can move faster for the time being.
Have a wonderful day my friends.

the bride with the netted veil

We've all seen the cartoons where the car drives with great speed up and over the mountains to its destination and then drives up and over the mountains with the same enthusiasm back home again. . .
Imagine that to be us.
I've taken the liberty to give you a brief glance at the map from here to there.
Notice .. .there are no straight roads. . .that would be a bit further on down the Trans Canada Highway.
I said. . . "if you keep driving .. . we'll end up at Charlotte's house. . she might have Betty over"
He said. . "we have only a weekend"
I said. . " and further down this road yet. . is the Kathi in PEI.
I said. . ."who says we have to be back?"
He said. . ."true"
When you have someone keeping care of the farm who is very responsible ..
you know that they will stay until you come. . .
but. .
with vacation planned for the end of this week. . we thought we best not push our luck.

We drove through some unexpected drizzle and when the rain stopped the car pulled into a car wash to have a bit of a bath.

The Rocky Mountains are just that.

I was imagining someone sitting about saying .. "what should we call this mountain range?"
Someone else says. . "which one?"
The first person in charge of the mountain naming committee says. . ."the Rocky ones".

The highway that stretches between the west coast of British Columbia and the east coast of Prince Edward Island. . .is called the Trans Canada Highway . .again a suitable decision.
It is often one lane in both directions.
In this particular section. . it was two lanes going up. . and one lane coming down.
All the lanes were closed for two hours because of a serious car crash.

So . ..we arrived at Calgary and found our hotel.
A word to the wise here.
I had printed off the directions as opposed to printing off the google maps.
The directions had us jumping off of the number 1 .. and then turning left. . and turning left some more and jumping back on the number 1 and then repeating the process.
Wrong. It nearly made me crazy. I am such a good navigator. . .or at least I was.
No matter. We made it.
Above you can see that my beloved is chatting with Uncle Elvin.
Since Terry's Dad has passed away. . .Uncle Elvin is the closest male older than my beloved.
It is a blessing when there is a man of care and integrity for a man.
Clearly my beloved is closer to his two sons that to any other men. . but to have a slightly older man that you yourself can lean upon .. .is a wonderful thing.
Elvin and Wendy always seem more like our cousins than our Aunt and Uncle because Elvin was the youngest and Terry was the oldest nephew.
While we waited at the Grand Theatre for the ceremony to begin ..
we were treated to lovely flutes of champagne in expectation of the nuptials being a done deal.

The bride. . our new cousin Kim, .. . married Grant who was a whipper snapper at our wedding.
It is always a bit daunting to do the math. . and though I tell myself that we all eventually catch up to one another .. .we really don't.
The entire weekend. . we were introduced by our Aunt Hilda. . the grooms mom. .
as "this is my nephew .. Terry and his wife Lovella. . .they are grandparents. ."
That might have something to do with the fact that Aunt Hilda is one and a half years younger than my mother in law (mil. . .someone asked me not long ago. . who is mil). .
yes. . as I was saying. . and Grant is Lou and Hilda's first child marrying.
I imagine she feels a bit like the catching up is going to be a bit of a challenge .. since my mil has two grandsons who have since married and had their own children.
Back to the family.
Above is the tight knit little sibling group.
On the far left is the beautiful silver haired satin dressed mother of the groom .. Hilda.
Next to her. . in the beautiful cream suit is my mil . . .Pauline.
Then. .in the center is the little brother .. Elvin.
And the far right is the quiet, always smiling lovely Loretta.
I ran around snapping pictures as though I myself had been commissioned to take full responsibility for the photos. .
I passed the camera off to Aunt Wendy for a picture of me and mine since I had mentioned the polka dotted dress. .
I'm a wee bit sad that my black high slides didn't make it on the bottom.
I'm going to have to take a picture of them another time.
I'm holding the matching wrap .. kind of funny. . but you get the drift.

Now, to the important part. .
We were seated in the theatre. . theatre style.
You can see the family opposite. .Uncle Lou. . (he was a bit elusive in the rest of the photos)
and then Auntie Hilda. . and the beautiful sisters. . Miss Carla ..and Miss Nancy.
Our family opted to sit across from our family so that we could see them.
Do you ever notice that at a wedding you can't see your family member as the couple holds hands and says their vows. . the other family sees them.
I've finally caught on to that.
The bride had a length of flowers that acted as her wrap.
She is our new cousin Kim.
We loved her immediately. .

Beautiful. . friendly and
. . . .
when I asked if she minded being on my blog. .
guess what?
Of course she would love to be on my blog. .
Love that girl.
(I considered not asking and apologizing later .. but I'm just not that devious)
Ah. . yes, after the nuptials were a done deal ..
we were treated to the most amazing little morsels of gourmet appetizers.
The aunties sat around looking at photos of grand kids on cameras. .
Oh and did I not tell you about Grant .. our cousin .. .has darling sisters?
Miss Carla in the gorgeous eggplant dress. . oh I love that colour. . (you might remember I wore that color to Terrence and Bea's wedding. .)
and on the right in her blue satin sheath Miss Nancy.
When cousins come to Calgary from afar .. they are made to feel special and welcomed.
Love those girls. .
Oh, and the mothers of the newly married couple.
Hilda in her gorgeous satin dress that matches her perfect satin hair. .
and Kim's mom. . .equally as friendly as her daughter . . the bride and just as lovely.
The couple danced so beautifully.
The perfectly executed fox trot. . made us all sigh.
We arrived home last evening. .
the laundry has begun. .
the calendar has been checked for this weeks activities ..
and the packing has started for our camping trip. . at the end of the week.
My posting will be short and sweet for the next few days. . .
I've missed you all and will pop by as many blogs as I can whilst I rush around.
Have a wonderful day my friends.
