Grand Camping 2014

This years grand camping included the four oldest for two nights.
We decided to take a break from dry camping and stayed at Camperland at Bridal Falls which is located at the East end of the Fraser Valley.

There is something to be said for unlimited running water, a swimming pool, electricity and air conditioning to cool things down at the end of the day.

Do all grandkids spend hours coloring?
Ours sure do.

Between being on their bikes and coloring...
it really doesn't pay to take off helmets.

By the time they went home they each had a stack of pages they colored to take home for their parents.

We were each gifted with one special picture...
for our own keepsake.

We had a great spot right around the corner from the swimming pool and we took full advantage of that pool a few times a day.

The next day we invited the parents and the littlest guy to join us at the water slides which are right next door.

It was a LOT of fun!
There were smiles and many runs back up to the top to slide once more.

All those from three to mid fifties participated.

I took a few breaks in between to document the sliding.

I had forgotten how much fun it was.

It struck me how much energy children can have to walk up hills when there is a promise of a fast slide down awaiting them.

We used to take in the waterslides almost every summer when we were on vacation.

The biggest guy...
did his best to create spectacles for everyone.

We haven't all laughed that hard in awhile

We remembered how when our boys were little...
their grandparents would take them to the waterslides and now we can continue that for the next generation.

It's too bad that no one had their camera when I came down...
since I made sure to whoop and holler to let them know I was coming.

grand camping 2014 is a done deal.

Last night after we got home we cut up some fruit and cheese and sat out in our tent to debrief.

We took a walk up to see the  Bridal Falls.

The waterfall... Playing in the stream below....Waterslides...Swimming...Yummy Food...Coloring.... Riding Bicycles....
was the best time ever and we can't wait to do it again.

Thanks for coming with us kids!

all for now...

fostering farm machinery

I often heard him talking about finding some old farm machinery to place in our beds around the farm.
We talked about taking our flatbed trailer to the prairies to see what could be found.

Patience paid off this weekend.
Our neighbors needed additional space in their yard and realized they needed to part with this machinery that had been in the family over several generations.

We have been given the privilege of caring for the implements.

Saturday afternoon was spent moving around the pieces until he was satisfied.

The beds will be enlarged to accommodate the larger pieces while the smaller pieces were tucked into existing beds and looked like they had been there...

The neighbors only have to peer over their fence and feel satisfied that there will be no grass growing up around the spokes of their implements.

Happy Farmer...
happy wife.

those two

I was watching his mama taking pictures of him.
It wasn't a planned photo op but her camera bag is slung over her shoulder more often than not...
because she never knows when an opportunity will present itself.

Little Oh wasn't so sure about standing in the spot that seemed made just for him.
Grandpa tried hard to make that spot seem irresistible ...
but that shot his mama was looking for didn't exactly happen.

I saw those two that share the same birthday and they made me smile so I snapped away behind the photographer.

May the Lord bless you and keep you...
may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you...
May the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.

a little weeding

We went out to pick some Romaine for supper.
I watched her for awhile and then went to the house to get my camera.

Up and down the rows...
picking out little weeds...
she never once noticed I was observing.

One little hand clutched the offensive inhabitants...
while the other one plucked.

A few months ago I might have made sure she knew which were weeds and which ones we would eventually want to harvest...
but now she recognized the vegetables.

She eventually had company.
He was most interested in what bugs she might be finding...
but she just continued on while he got busy looking for something interesting in the dirt.

the car show

A typical Saturday it was not.
He left early in the morning to join the parade of classic cars and hot rods filing into Mill Lake Park.

I stayed home in the morning to clean house and once that was finished I brought our picnic right around lunch time.

We have been to many car shows but this was our first official entry and now I can see what folks do there all day.

There is no lack of friendly folks to visit with.

After lunch we left the hood open and did our own walk around the park to see all the cars and do some visiting of our own.

When we got back I said...
"hey look... they put a Winner card on your windshield."

Of all things!

At 2 pm we joined the other car enthusiasts at the stage and sure enough...
there was indeed a trophy coming his way.

His 1950 Merc built over three years...
got a moment of recognition.

I was happy for him.

Getting kissed by these two sweethearts...
was just icing on the cake.

summer spider sweep

Sometimes I just wonder what he is doing out there all day.
He always finds something to use up his allowable hours of work between 8 and 6.

On this particular day I was heading out to the garden to pick lettuce for a salad and I saw him up there with his corn broom and I turned right around and went back to the house to get my camera.

I tried really hard to be subtle...
coming up from an angle so I wouldn't disturb his sweeping.

He saw me and carried on.
I asked him what he was doing.

Sweeping spider nests off the soffiting.

This post is dedicated in particular to Mom and Auntie Hilda who will read this post and feel proud of their clean son/nephew.

Happy Canada Day

Every Canada Day...
the flag that has flown for the last year it taken down...

and the new one is raised.

It is folded ...

and maybe flown a bit more.

Raise it high...

share it with your brother...

always be thankful for the freedom we have.

Thanking God today for the peace we know.

O Canada our home and native land,

True patriot love in all our sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The true north strong and free!

From far and wide, O Canada,

We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

From our family to yours...
Have a most wonderful Canada Day!
