This is the most requested recipe I have. Paska is a traditional Mennonite Bread made only at Easter. There are many recipes with subtle differences. Each and every baker and family for that matter prefers their own recipe and every year when I serve it I hear about the differences of the recipes. My recipe originated with Terry's grandmother. I have added and subtracted until it was to my liking. My own mom's recipe was much lighter with more eggs but it tended to be dry. This recipe smells unbelievably wonderful while baking. If you attempt to make it, prepare for requests for another batch. If you are not careful, before you know it, you will be expected to begin baking it the day after Valentines day because of the demand. It is easiest if you have a blender to make a really light dough. When the orange, lemon, eggs, milk and butter are added to the blender, let it blend on Medium for several minutes. Fintgertip Pot Holders

I love quick little projects that I can copy and pass on to others. My friend Linda gave me this sweet little set for my birthday. The little fingertip pot holders are perfect for bringing something hot to the table and leaving with hot dishes to pass around. I've made them two different ways now and since the method is slightly different I will explain them both ways. For each little holder you will need two pieces of fabric cutting them each 8 inches long and 4 inches wide. Round the edges as shown. Then. ..you will need 4 more pieces pieces to slip your fingers into, These pocket pieces measure 3 1/2 inches long each and 4 inches wide. These measurements are meant to be a guide. You can of course make each one a bit wider or narrower to suit yourself. You will also need some heat proof fabric which is sold especially in fabric stores for pot holders. Something that I grew up with and is very typical Mennonite food is Roll kuchen . It is eaten with a nice cold Watermelon on a hot day. Yesterday almost got hot and so out came the whipping cream and the eggs. I feel like there should be a disclaimer with this recipe for its obvious lack of nutritional value. No worries. Just don't eat it every day and you'll be fine. Something else that we learned last summer is that these delicious rich deep fried rolled fritters are delicious with strawberries and whipped cream. Oh the guilt never ends. The ingredient list is very simple and I'm happy to say that it does have farm fresh eggs included in the recipe so, . . . .well, there are plenty of nutrients in those . . .so, its all good. Roll kuchen 1 cup whipping cream 3 eggs 1 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. baking powder 3 cups of flour Mix these ingredients together and knead into a ball. Wrap the dough up and refrigerate it for a few hours. Blue Cornflowers

One of the treasures that I found at the MCC Relief sale was this little 1 1/2 quart loaf pan with a lid. It actually has straight sides but the magic of photography changed it to sloped sides. I have had this Blue Cornflower pattern of Corning Ware since we have been married and of all the gifts we had received..... the assortment of casseroles are in the same condition as they were in in 1978. Of course...you can still buy these products but if they are purchased new they won't have the stamp on the bottom which says MADE IN CANADA. You can still find them for sale ... but finding them with a Stamp made in Canada might be a bit harder. They don't make Corning Ware like they used to. It was first introduced in 1958 and was then made of a glass ceramic material which could be used on stove top and under the broiler.. I'm a wee bit reticent to open up this dialogue but since I was the one with the brain wave to have a cooking blog titled Mennonite Girls Can Cook , I feel like a bit of explanation is warranted. Last week when I posted my new iron. . I was amused by the anonymous comment stating that I had just put the women's lib movement back forty years. Then on top of that I have the audacity to suggest that I and others of my "religious persuasion". . .can cook. Shoot. I've had a few emails and enquiries of what MGCC really means. Anneliese's Low Fat Blueberry Scones

Today I'm hosting a non blogger recipe from Anneliese. She sent me this blueberry scone which after trying I can wholeheartedly endorse. I made them up yesterday and they really are quite scrumptious . . .and easy too . . .
