Downton Abbey...delivered

Do you all watch Downton Abbey?
At first when I heard the title of the show I couldn't help but think of my hometown but then quickly dismissed it.

Last year...I heard about it again and I was wishing I had watched the previous season as now I had friends who were into it...
and I was out of the loop.

This year right after Christmas the hoopla started in again on Facebook and I felt completely undone.
What was this amazing show that had all my girlfriends in a dither...
setting their PVR's and warning against watching the trailers...
which apparently would ruin the shock and disbelief of the goings on in Downton.

This prompted me to check to see if I could find it all on Netflix.
I thought to myself..
now there is something that could coax me onto the treadmill.
I found season one and when my beloved came in for lunch...
announced the good news.

He of course...
didn't share my enthusiasm but as the day wore on...
and he came in again for coffee mid afternoon..
it was loaded up and ready to go.

When he came in for supper...
dinner was ready and I had a lovely dinner ready to serve in the back room...
complete with dinner entertainment.

We watched the first episode over dinner...
and the second episode over dessert...
and then just kept going.

We finished up season one at 11 pm.
I searched this morning for season two..
and sadly realized it wasn't available yet on Netflix.

I went back to my Facebook friends and casually mentioned that I was going to be undone.

And then...
Natalie..my niece sent me a hasty message telling me not to worry one speck..
she had season two in her DVD library and would get it to me ...
asap.

This dear Natalie ...
kids not.

Mid afternoon she arrived...
season two in hand...
and now..
I'm set.

She said as she left.
"don't watch it all in one night".

ok.

I love Natalie.

all for now...

  2. Oops. My reply showed up twice so I deleted one and it deleted both! So, as I was saying, I'm glad you got to see this great series. We don't get it on our 3 channel country cable so I haven't seen one episode. I had hoped to purchase it but haven't found both seasons yet. Season 1 seems to be sold out for some reason. I wonder why??? I'm glad your husband enjoyed it too. Have a great day!

  3. So did you watch it all in one night? I read all spoilers because I am a spoiled brat. That way, I know that I am definitely going to be watching Season Three with baited breath. Not that I shouldn't be watching "out of breath" from having exercised throughout. Good plan, Lovella!

  4. Glad your niece came to the rescue! I'm still hearing about it from the sidelines...and have yet to get into 'Downton Abbey'...though I always intend to. How is Terry enjoying his immersion into Downton Abbey?

  5. Terry gets extra Hubby Treats. Good Terry!

I've been waiting for a chance to plow through a few seasons at once, mostly to see the hats.

  6. I've got season 1 and 2 on DVD... I should have brought it up at Christmas!!
    Glad you are catching up.

  7. Lovella - I adore this series and the farmer and I watched season 1 and 2. We would watch one episode and then look at each other "let's watch the next one" and then "the next one". We did this over several weeks - loved it!!! Because we live in the boonies and don't have a satellite dish we'll have to wait for season 3 and I hear it comes out at the end of this month. Yippee!!! We will try to restrain ourselves and just watch one episode/night - wonder if we can do it?? Enjoy Season Two!

  8. Well, it sounds like something new for me....I did not know there might be an series that could involve both of us except for watching sports. You have me curious. But I don't think I could ever sit still for so long...

  9. Oh my goodness! I love it! I can't believe you guys watched the whole season in one evening!!!! Oh it is all the rage around here too! Michael hates the thing. :) So, I watch it by myself. But, I'm meeting friends later this week for tea and we are going to watch the first episode of season 3 together!! And, I've joined in on the Downton Abbey Mystery Knit A Long with I think at least 1500 others -- maybe more -- and that will be fun too! WE are knitting Violet's fingerless gloves!!! What I love is the beautiful attention to detail -- the gorgeous food, the history, the interiors and the costumes. Oh, and if you want to do further reading, I have a whole Downton Abbey reading list!!! http://blackberryrambles.blogspot.com/2012/04/downton-abbey-reading-list.html

  11. A great show! I always loved "Upstairs Downstairs" and it's very similar. PBS had a special on the real Downton Abbey castle and family and that was equally fascinating!

  12. Lovella, I am just someone who occasionally reads your blog and enjoys your cookbook, but when I saw this post I wondered if you have seen Call the Midwife. It's a completely different kind of show, dealing with a completely different part of English society, but much more real, and you may enjoy it even more than this wonderful but rather fantastical Downton Abbey. I watch them both at PBS.org. There has been one season of Call the Midwife plus a holiday special that aired a couple weeks ago, and a second season to come, I believe.

    1. Debbie,
Thank you for that show idea. I haven't seen that one either and feel quite excited now to have a few more shows to add to my treadmill entertainment!

  13. What a sweet niece! I have enjoyed the first two seasons immensely and have both on DVD. Season Three should be interesting!.....and do try to get 'Call the Midwife'. It's a winner!

  14. Yes, it truly is a wonderful series. I feel as if I need to search out seasons 1 & 2, as it's been so long since I've seen them, and I want to brush up on the events. (Will there be a test? I hope not! Though I might be able to bluff my way through an essay exam!) I am already hoping they'll do a fourth series -- I really hate to give up on these people! Enjoy your season 2, even if you do sit through it all in one sitting! xoxox

  15. Okay.. I've been hearing about Downton Abbey . . . and you really have me convinced now! I think these rainy winter nights will be needing something new to look forward to.

  16. Of course I love Downton Abbey Lovella!
Fictional remembrances of an England that did exist with such separate class systems.
    Brilliantly done!
And I am seeing the comment about Call The Midwife...you will love that too...and that REALLY happened. (I have the first book if you are ever interested in reading it for a "taster."
Season 2 starts this Spring on PBS.
