Nor doth He Sleep

It is interesting how sometimes my mind recalls a snippet of a song and it takes me sometimes a few minutes to position it within the context it was written.

As I thought about what to post today...
I stared at the screen without a word of cheer.

Sometimes it is not our own grief  . . .
but rather it is in watching the grief and hurt of those we care about that makes us think that indeed..
the world should stand still.

With so much going on around me...
it would feel disrespectful to post as if life....
goes on.

Yesterday....
I thought of that phrase over and over...

God is not dead...
nor doth He sleep.

(lyrics by Henry Longfellow....I heard the Bells on Christmas Day)

God promises his love and compassion will never leave us...
and though the mountains seem to crumble around us...
his steadfast love will remain ...
and he will give us peace.

(from Isaiah 54:10)

No matter how big or small troubles are...
I am grateful we do not need to walk this life alone.
God is very much alive and nothing goes past him without his notice.

all for now...

  2. You can not imagine how much your thoughts today mirror my own. How very true that God is always on the job; always working on each and every situation as we invite Him into it; and He is loving us through...

  3. I could have posted these thoughts today as well! There are so many hurts out there...and still I know 'He doth not sleep'. 'He gives and takes away...He gives and takes away...Blessed be the name of the Lord'. Those are the words that have been circling through my mind since yesterday morning.

  4. He that watches over Israel
    Neither slumbers nor sleeps,
    Slumbers nor sleeps,
    Neither slumbers nor sleeps...

These are the words to a beautiful Jewish song that is as gentle as a lullabye.
It is a scriptural quote and sings just as beautifully in Hebrew.

  5. Thank you Jill, that is so beautiful and I had never heard that song. It does sound like a lullabye.

  6. It's a timely post, as we think about being more vulnerable. Often it appears as if we have it all together, but we are all very human and stand beside many of those that are in need of compassion including ourselves.
And yet, we need to peak outside and see the glories of God.

  7. The photo of the eagle had me think on a particular verse and I looked it up,
"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
A few verses before that it says that "the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary and his understanding no one can fathom."
He is God and knows the end from the beginning. This is something we do not understand . . . we can only hold onto Him and trust that He will continue to sustain and provide.
I think of my two-year-old granddaughter, who was did not understand why she could not be with mom a few nights ago.. and when she cuddled up close to me, trusting me,I was blessed.

    Job 19:25-27

25 I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;
27 I myself will see him
with my own eyes—I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!

  10. There are a few eagles that perch in the tree outside my kitchen window. Those verses from Isaiah that Anneliese quoted come to my mind often. Thank you for the timely reminder that in the midst of sorrow, and pain, God does not sleep but continues to act on our behalf.
