the effects of farming

The other evening I was tucking grandgirlie into bed in the grandroom.
When the grands were born. . .my beloved installed a dimmer switch so that I could have a "night light" on the ceiling.
We prayed. . .and she lay there quietly on her side while I scratched her back.

A few minutes later. .
She says in a serious tone. . ."grammie. .. is that chicken poop on that light?"
I say. . ."no love.  ..it's just some dirt  (not wanting to alert her to the fact that little bugs had died within the light fixture).
She says. ..rather adamantly.  .."grammie. ..it looks a lot like chicken poop".
I said. . ."I know love."

Satisfied. ..she let it go.

Needless to say. . .I cleaned light fixtures thoroughly the next morning.
Out of the mouth of babes.

all for now . .

  1. Lovella, this makes me laugh. How do those danged bugs make it into such tight spaces? Very annoying!

(The other day, we were all playing a rousing game of Hide n' Seek in the house. My grand was the seeker and couldn't find his very well hidden aunt. John suggested calling an "All-y all-y in come free" only he said, "all-y, all-y, nincompoop." My little grand's head snapped around so fast and he said giggling, "Oh, John! Don't be so ridiculous!" You might have guessed that he did not hear the "n." Oh how we've laughed over that one. See? I can't write about such things on my blog, but I'll bug you with them knowing that you'll understand.

  2. Every day, my son calls from Ontario to tell me the latest bons mots from my grandsons. They are precious! You are so lucky to have your wee ones close by to hear, to tuck in, to cuddle.

  5. Oh that's funny. I have chicken poop in some of my lights, too. I'll have to put that on my cleaning list. Sometimes we don't look up when we are cleaning....

  6. Too funny! I'll have to see if my light fixtures need 'shoveling out' as well. Who looks up?

  7. Tate alerts us to any bugs, even the tiniest little insect gets his full attention. He won't shut up about a bug on a light fixture, and so we lift him to the ceiling light fixture so he can catch it. Last night he got two light fixture prowling bugs with me hoisting him up high.
Hope he doesn't get much heavier, or we will have to quit this silly game.

  8. Oh Lovella! Thanks for the smile... it's good you have a grand-girlie....they keep things so real. Is that chicken poop? LOL Natalie wanted me to come and check her on the toilet to see if the poop was all off (of her)...
she is learning to wipe herself.

  10. Hi Lovella,
I'd like to say that I noticed the "chicken poop" in the light fixture Friday night during my turn at scratching grandgirlie's back....but I didn't. I'm off work tomorrow, so I think I'll clean light fixtures tomorrow as grandgirlie is at my house and may notice the "chicken poop" in my fixtures.

  12. You can't believe the things these little ones are free to ask me. I smiled the entire way through this post. Only you would be able to make this such a fun post.

  13. How observant and questioning young children are! You handled it well, Lovella. I will be cleaning my lamp fixtures very soon as this made me look up and examine them :)

Thanks so much for your congratulations! We are thrilled!

  14. Yes...out of the mouths of babes. What I like is those little ones only observe and comment, but it does not matter at all that all to them that we have some dust or dead flies in the corners. They just love us as we are.....and for spending time with them.

  15. Oh my...they are so darling and yet so true to speak their hearts.
I love the dimmer switch idea...we installed those when my daughters were very young and now my young boys love that little extra night light.
