Oh Come Little Children . . .

So this is it then. . .
Christmas eve.

I remembered yesterday a little song that I was taught to sing for my grandparents as a little girl.
Ihr Kinderlein, kommet, o kommet doch all!
Zur Krippe her kommet in Bethlehem's Stall
und seht, was in dieser hochheiligen Nacht
der Vater im Himmel für Freude uns macht!

Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all,
To Bethlehem’s stable, in Bethlehem’s stall.
And see with rejoicing this glorious sight,
Our Father in heaven has sent us this night.

Christof von Shmid 1798

This is Christmas. . .
a time of rejoicing and time set aside to celebrate Christ.

I sincerely wish you all a Christmas filled with delightful moments with family and friends.
May you store up many precious memories for the days to come.

Merry Christmas . .

  1. Gesegnete Weihnachten! Love that Sunday School song! Long time ago, we attended a wedding really close to Christmas. After a short break in the program, the pastor, who was the MC, asked everyone to sing a Christmas Carol. He innocently suggested, "Ihr Kinderlein kommet." The laughter that followed increased his shade of embarrassment! It's a vivid memory I still have 45+ years later!!!

  2. Lovella, thank you for sharing the words to that song. It was one of the first Christmas carols I learned, taught to us (in english) by our mother, who was just learning english from dutch. I did not know all the words anymore. Wishing you a joyful Christmas season. Dairymary

  3. And we sang this song in Russian.
O dzyetkey edzeete edzeete scaray. It's hard to spell russian words phonetically in english. I've tried to find this song written out in Russian on line but haven't had any luck yet. I'll have to ask my folks.
A very Merry Christmas to all of you Lovella!!

  4. That carol is on one of the CDs I play at this time of year - it takes me back!
Merry Christmas to you, Terry and to your growing family!

  5. Thanks for sharing this song. I want to be like a little child this year.

  6. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  7. We sang that when we were little too! I love the german ones.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  8. Fröhliche Weihnachten! I've been singing all these old German carols the last few days...and loving them. Have a wonderful Christmas...with the 'Kinderlein' and all the rest of the family.

  9. we sing that one still!

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours Lovella!

  10. Merry Christmas, Lovella, to you and your family, and blessings for the New Year. Und danke sehr for your blog friendship...you are always a blessing.

  11. Dear Lovella
I hope you and your family a year had a wonderful Christmas and that 2011 will be full of good health, happiness and many more blessings!

  12. We all remember that song so clearly. And now we sing new songs..but there's nothing like those old fashioned memories.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas Season.
    Frohliches Weihnacten!

  13. Ohh .. I remember that song -- I'm sure we sang it at Grandma and Grandpa's Christmas family gathering, didn't we? I missed some of the old songs this year!
    Beautiful photos!

    Karin, that is tooo funny!

  14. Thank you for sharing these few pictures of your home, even if it was from last year. I think I remember that your home was on a Christmas Home Tour last year, and now I understand why. So cozy, inviting, and tastefully decorated. I like your decorating style.
