So this is it then. . .
Christmas eve.
I remembered yesterday a little song that I was taught to sing for my grandparents as a little girl.
Ihr Kinderlein, kommet, o kommet doch all!
Zur Krippe her kommet in Bethlehem's Stall
und seht, was in dieser hochheiligen Nacht
der Vater im Himmel für Freude uns macht!
Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all,
To Bethlehem’s stable, in Bethlehem’s stall.
And see with rejoicing this glorious sight,
Our Father in heaven has sent us this night.

Gesegnete Weihnachten! Love that Sunday School song! Long time ago, we attended a wedding really close to Christmas. After a short break in the program, the pastor, who was the MC, asked everyone to sing a Christmas Carol. He innocently suggested, "Ihr Kinderlein kommet." The laughter that followed increased his shade of embarrassment! It's a vivid memory I still have 45+ years later!!!
ReplyDeleteLovella, thank you for sharing the words to that song. It was one of the first Christmas carols I learned, taught to us (in english) by our mother, who was just learning english from dutch. I did not know all the words anymore. Wishing you a joyful Christmas season. Dairymary

ReplyDeleteO dzyetkey edzeete edzeete scaray. It's hard to spell russian words phonetically in english. I've tried to find this song written out in Russian on line but haven't had any luck yet. I'll have to ask my folks.

Thank you for sharing these few pictures of your home, even if it was from last year. I think I remember that your home was on a Christmas Home Tour last year, and now I understand why. So cozy, inviting, and tastefully decorated. I like your decorating style.
