to the harrison

We were counting how many times we've traipsed off to the Harrison Hot Springs in the last few years. . .

We were not sure. . .but we are sure we will go again.

When we were a young family with young children and even with teen children, the nights away were few and far between. There is something quite delightful in having an empty nest.

Sitting outside in the hot pool with cold air and mountain backdrops with time to talk and plan for our future. . . it was wonderful.

Combine all that with a perfectly blue sky day. . . and a lovely lunch on the way .. .

a few appy's in the evening with cozy chairs and just us two. . .

it was wonderful.

Combine all that with .. . . the long way home. . .

and gorgeous scenery .. .and time to talk. .

and just us two. . .

it was wonderful.

We've decided that this my year of jubilee. . .we will celebrate, not just next month. . .when the date arrives. . .but all year. . .with little lunches. . .and friends for dinner. . .and a night here and there. . .

Not everyday of my life is stress free. . .or free from concern. . .but yesterday. . .it was blissful. A good marriage doesn't just happen. . . it takes time, planning. . . . and a bit of romance. I'm so thankful that we had enough alone moments over the years to build a relationship that would still be interesting once that we would be alone.

All for now. . .with love,

  1. Oh it looks as if you had a lovely lovely time! A perfect way to kick off the jubilee year!

Roger and I are in the same life stage - and I agree! there are definitely some perks to the empty nest! We are having fun :)

  2. It looks wonderful! I've never been in a hot spring, but it looks like something good to try! (I think the closest I've come to is a Turkish mud bath -- that is definately an experience :) ) I really appreciate the example you and your husband set of working for and maintaining a good marriage. It is so encouraging!

  3. Beautiful! I think you're in the right place in your life...and in your lives together.

I'm enjoying the empty nest, too!! Having a good foundation of 30-plus years together in marriage and in friendship makes it all the more special, too.

  4. What a wonderful way to celebrate this special birthday ... a year of special getaways and delightful encounters with family and fiends. Maybe we should consider doing that more often. Happy 50th Lovella! May the Lord give you encouragement and energy and health and love all year long.

  5. Ah...yes...the Harrison! We love that place...and we just cancelled a planned stay there this weekend (due to circumstances). It sounds like you had a delightful get-away.

We quite enjoy our times together as well...just us two...after all these years! An empty nest is a good thing...as long as they still come back to the nest for visits.

  6. How right you are. We have to nurture our most important relationship so that's it's still viable when we're on our own again. This is just what The Great Dane and I have done over the years, although he's never been to Harrison with me! That's a place I visit often - in fact I'll be there next week. I've never been in the hot pool though - and it does look like fun!

  7. ...want to go to the Harrison....NOW!
Mr. T. is a man of great inspiration and excellent timing. After all the rain, to seize the perfect clear day for a tryst was genius.

Looking forward to the up coming on going celebrations.

  8. Ahh it looks just lovely! It is good to enjoy the empty nest. I love the beautiful photos you took. The reflection of the mountain in the water is fabulous! I love the year of celebrating idea for sure :0)

  9. So true, one of the biggest thing we encourage our married kids to do is spend time together alone. Our parents took our kids for weekends so we could spend time together and now we take our grands so that our kids can have time away to enjoy each other. Looks like you had the perfect get away. Last year we did the celebrate all year thing...so you go for it this year! I may even be in on one or two of the events. Yippy! Kathy

  10. Yea! Keep up those special moments. Sometimes they seem to be more rare as one sets in with adult children, and grandchildren.
    Harrison is so beautiful.
We're leaving now for 100 Mile House.
Tim Hortons' breakfast sandwich and coffee and away we go.
    See you shortly.

  12. I agree . . . the rewards of working on your marriage all along are sure worth it and so rewarding at this empty nest stage. I quite enjoy being "just the two of us" again! I also like the idea of a year of jubilee! Thank you for the inspiration you are to so many!

  13. Thank you for your lovely post . . . What a wonderful future to look forward to! We have about 20 years left before our nest is empty (just had our sixth brand-new babe last month) but my husband and I have tried to regularly spend precious time together over the years, too. It is a blessing to have a best friend AND husband in the same man!

Love your blog and the peace it brings,

    Roz

  14. reading about your marriage is inspiring to me Lovella. Thank-you for sharing pieces of it with us younger married women and for also not glossing over the effort and time that needs to be put into creating a great marriage. You have blessed me and many others too!

  16. What a wonderful get away you had. We all need to make time for more of those.

In the year that we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, instead of just celebrating on July 26, we did something special on or around the 26th of each month that year. It was so much fun. Sometimes it was small (just a special dinner out) and sometimes it was big (the Mediterranean cruise!) - but it was a great way to celebrate!

  17. One can tell that it is not only the "alone moments" that have given you a good marriage, but from reading the first entry of interests in your profile, it has been your choices and priorities that have given your life great satisfaction. Prov.19:23

  18. Yes, it's important to do little things all year long every year to keep connecting with what you loved about your spouse in the first place! I wish there were a hot springs near us! I'd be there!
