whiter than snow

Saturday we given the gift of unusually warm spring weather.
Who would have spent the day indoors of their own accord?
It leaves me perplexed to be sure.

I fully expect that most people would have ripped the linens from their beds, rolling the inhabitants onto the floor and flung the laundry into the machine,
simply to see this .. .
and to
smell the outdoor linen scent later.

I am always amused that this scent can be purchased for the indoor dryer.
. . ..so they say.

I say ..
not even close.

Tell me, when is the last time you have slept on linens dried on the line?
At the very next opportunity . .try it.

This morning I was reading from the book
"My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers.

Something I read gripped my heart.

It reads like this ..

"God wants you to be entirely His, and it requires paying close attention to keep yourself fit.
It also takes a tremendous amount of time. Yet some of us expect to rise above all of our problems, going from one mountaintop experience to another, with only a few minutes' effort."

Wow, this really hit me .. .
First of all I smiled since he was speaking of us trying to keep fit, we want it done quickly with no pain. (seemed to ring a bell)
I'm sure we all have areas in our life that requires much more of God,
and far less of ourselves.
but I need to be concerned what I need done in my life.

By the grace of God, I'm forgiven, . . . .that was completed when Christ died on the cross.
I desire to live a life of obedience daily,
and that takes effort to be aware and alert .. .
and a determination to lay aside my selfish nature. . .
oh boy ..

Why is it so hard to let go of selfishness?

If I really believe what the Bible says, I will.
If I really trust that God has my life in His hands. . .
I will.

By the grace of God .. .I will.

Have a wonderful day my friends. . .
I'm off for my walk.

  1. Thanks for the challenge Lovella.
I fit right into that...I need to be reminded who is in control of life and that I can help influence others much more by walking the talk.

  3. What great thoughts and what a beautiful analogy.

Oh, yes, it's been awhile, but I do remember sleeping on sun-dried sheets...ahhhh...

  4. Wow..what a God moment..thanks for sharing, Lovella! It spoke to me..
Oh yeah about the linens, how wonderful to sink into 'sun and wind dried' bedding at night! I dry them outside as often as I can.
I'm baking cookies today, choc chip and gingersnaps..

  5. I see that we are doing the same MUFHH readings...yes, he certainly has a way of cutting through everything right to the heart of the matter, where we are forced to take an honest look at ourselves. And for that I'm deeply grateful!

Enjoy your walk...or I assume you already did enjoy your walk!

  7. Thank the Lord for grace!! And every day we can be "white as snow" or "line dried linen" in His sight.

I'm so glad He wants us to be completely His.

    Thanks for the thoughts Lovella!

I love to hang clothes outdoors - Roger calls it God's dryer. But my clothesline pole went down in Hurricane Joel or was it Noel - I forget - anyway I need a new one!

  8. I love the smell of lined dried clothes, but alas, I have no line since the swimming pool took it's place.

    Beautiful post!

  9. I just read a quote by Mark Twain who said that to build character is to "do something every day that you don't want to do." That is so true in my life, whether it be exercise or rolling out of bed a bit earlier to spend time with the Lord. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.It is a good reminder.

  10. Hope that your walk was a delight...you certainly had a lot of things to think about..."My Utmost for His Highest" gives a reader tons to think about. As long as it doesn't become self-effort, it's amazing what God can do through us.

It's been way too long since I've been able to line dry things. Too many trees overhead and too many birds. For a while there, I even had a smokestack across the river to contend with. You're so right that nothing matches the sweet scent of line dried sheets!

  11. I enjoy reading your site even though I've never left a comment - sorry! I just hung sheets out on the line for the first time this spring (after the long winter) and they'll be out there each week all summer -- yeah!! I too like to walk and I walk four miles a day/five days a week when the weather allows.

I also read from MUFHH -- good stuff!

  13. When I was growing up there was no other way to dry sheets except out on the line! You are right .. there is no smell like sheets dried outside. In our complex we are not allowed to hang anything outside so I guess I have to leave that joy to others and be satisfied with the dryer! :-(

Oswald Chambers is wonderful. He always has such deep thoughts and insightful wisdom into the things of God.

    Beautifully thought out post, Lovella.
