Vancouver date

I just have a few pictures from yesterday. I wondered how many steps I'd have to walk to burn off one of these. I mean seriously it's all fruit under there. The nice man behind the counter was giving out samples so we didn't buy one. I wonder how many times they actually miss a sale just because all a person needs is a taste.
It was quite chilly but it never rained nor snowed so we were happy to walk through the streets just being part of the culture. We were just amazed at the construction that is underway for the 2010 Olympics. There are cranes everywhere in every direction.

This is our favorite spot. We had thought about having our coffee break closer to the waterfront but this little Starbucks on Robson is where we always end up. We like to sit on the stools looking out the window keeping my eyes pealed for some famous face. As we were sitting there, a well dressed (kind of funny how I feel I need to say that part) .. . slowed down with his female companion . . . .pointed at me in the window and mouthed something to me and smiled. I smiled back . . . looked at my beloved and said . .."did he just say he liked my hat?" .. . "my sweet man looked at me and said . . "I think he did". Kind of funny how that made my day.
Oh . . .and on another note, we both wore our pedometers yesterday and we were interested to find that my more expensive pedometer was a little less generous with the step count. By the end of the day, he had 2000 more steps than me. This realization made him a little sad since he's been coming in at lunch doing the step comparison everyday.
Have a wonderful day, we're off to go pick up some more parts for Miss Ella. I'll be posting on her again soon.

  2. That looks like a fun way to spend a winter day!

I still haven't purchased my pedometer...so (if I read you correctly)the cheaper, the better! I'll see what I can find. I am finally ending my 'solitary confinement' and heading out of the house.

  4. Those pictures look familiar. We were just there in December. We took the Santa Train (West Coast Express) to the waterfront and ate at the Old Spagetti Factory and walked around Canada Place. We took the sea bus to Londsdale Quay, it was a wonderful day. We hardly ever go into Vancouver and our kids hadn't been to the waterfront before so it was like a field trip for them.
    I keep forgetting my pedometer.

  6. Just checking in to see how the walking is going. The yummy foods look TOO yummy --- hmmmm --- today even a picture of calorie laden foods might send me in a tailspin (I've been SO good). I agree about the hat --- it's adorable. I found a similar one at Kohl's and just about bought it after Christmas, but it wasn't quite 'right' and when I came home and compared it to the picture of yours I was sure it wasn't quite right. I will keep looking! You look very dapper in your beautiful hat. Thank you for sharing the moments of your fun day in town!

  7. I'm telling you...men LOVE to compliment women about their hats. They will walk out of their way to do so.
You looked fetchingly marvelous in your chapeau, and of course you were noticed by a well dress man. Bet Mr. T gave you a few extra admiring glances as well.

Hats: cheaper than therapy. Instant self esteem builder.

  8. Oh my ... those apples look delicious! I'm with you - I would've had the free sample and wouldn't have bought one (even though I would really have wanted the whole thing). Too bad about those silly calories.

  9. is that in lonsdale quay? i used to LOVE going out there with my mom or leah on the seabus and just wandering around looking at all of the yummy stuff. the fruit stands were my favorite. good for you for resisting temptation! i would've taken the sample AND an entire one to boot! (and i wouldn't have shared either :))

  10. I'm not sure about the difference in the pedometers, but the previous one I had was known to click off 10-15 or so steps for every single step I actually took. That's why I like the one that I can program to my stride length (even though I did pay a little extra for it!).

What a great ego-booster to have a stranger - and a man, at that! - stop to compliment you on your hat!

I'm working on those steps - I've been to the mall, to Target, and to the grocery store. Now it's to the kitchen to make dinner!

  11. If you just take the seabus across the inlet, you'd be so close to my house that I could run down to the Quay to visit with you - just give me about 10 minutes! It had to have been cold down there next to the water!

  12. The apples are 'eye pleasing' but I think they'd be too sweet...let's just say they are!...lol
I bought a cheap pedometer and it is doing the job so I'm happy! I also seem to forget to put it on in the morning..once the habit is formed it will be just like brushing teeth, right??
How fun your day sounds...that's what you call a great date, I esp like the part about having coffee and 'people watching'.

  13. Those pictures make me miss that place! I'm glad that you had a chance to have such an awesome date.

(I've noticed that with some pedometers...some don't work that well because some even counts the steps when you go to the bathroom (example: when your pants are going off or on) I guess you have to be careful what you purchase) Do you know where we can purchase a good pedometer?

  14. Oh, what fun! I was in Vancouver once, and I recognize those sail-like structures behind you. Such a lovely place! They were having a heatwave when I was there, in 1988! We melted in our hotel room because there was no air conditioning. Quite different from your date. You look very cute all bundled up and with your hat.

  15. Yummy - the apples. They never make small ones do they?

We like to sit at the bar and look out at the world too.

It's a week late, but I've bought a pedometer this afternoon. So - count me in.

  16. mmm, those apples look delish!!! I love dates in the "big city". I think its so great that you two take time to just be together. That has got to be good for a marriage.

  17. Hey Lovella,

Those candy apples are my weakness, although I saw them yesterday in Victoria and didn't buy one (thought we'd go back that way later but didn't - guess it wasn't meant to be). I, too, LOVE sitting at that Starbucks looking for famous faces. So fun! Love that that gentleman took the time to stop and tell you he liked your hat. That's great.

I was late getting caught up on my blog reading and missed out on the walking club, but I've started the Sun Run training again and am going to try out Bikram's yoga in Abbotsford. Little scared. Heard it's supposed to be hard, but great for you!
