the rockies

As a young girl, the vast beauty of the Rocky Mountains that graced our country was impressed upon me. I had a Mom that truly enjoyed and often became emotional when she would see amazing scenery. This was something I've thought of recently when I myself have looked at mountains and wished that I could capture it just perfectly.
As I look through old photographs I smile as I see that my parents always had a camera on the go. Okay, so I come by it naturally . . .some how that feels good. To know that genetically I am predisposed to enjoy the sound of the click and better yet, the repeat sound of the click, brings another anchor to the parents I miss. I wonder if we don't fully realize how much we are like our parents until we have time and distance to remember and reflect.

Have you seen the Canadian Rocky Mountains? . . .and did you want to sing "How Great Thou Art" when you came around the bend and saw the first peaks? Well, then perhaps you and I share something too.
Have a great day my friends, the sun is shining outside . . . and out I go . . .

  2. What a great legacy - all those amazing photos and the desire to capture each wonderful moment!

I've never seen the Canadian Rocky Mountains, nor have I been to the US Rockies...maybe someday (I flew over them!). My hubby and I spent three weeks exploring Alaska a few years ago, as well as the Yukon Territory and British Columbia - we were in awe! God's designs are breath-taking and meticulous - right down to the pebble. I'm ready to do it again!

  3. Those who live in the Rockies can never seem to be comfortable living without them. Colorado folks move to Texas, and then have to move back home, sighing that they just missed "their" mountains too much.
I'm so happy to read about things that connect you with your parents, perspectives that reveal themselves over the years.
BTW, who was taking a picture of the the person taking the picture in the last shot? Did your family had two camera?

  4. Jill, I wondered who took the picture as well. I think it may have been my aunt or uncle who often travelled with us.

  5. I sure do miss those Rockies. We live in the ¨Manitoba¨ of Argentina so there isn´t a mountain in sight. I went to bible school in Regina for two years and the drive through the Rockies was always spectacular. One trip home for spring break wasn´t so fun though when our car went off the road near Golden. Thankfully the deep snow stopped our car from heading down a steep hill. We called a tow truck and we were on our way in no time. My mom didn´t like that little episode so she sent me back to school by train.

  8. The first time I saw the Rockies I was in awe. I actually stopped on the side of the road to get just a glimpse of an awesome creation. What an imagination our God has!

  9. How thrilling those mountains must be! Having grown up and lived all my live along the coast, I've never really seen mountains as grand as those. But I will be in the Colorado Rockies for the first time in a couple of months for a few days - I know I'll be in awe.

PS: I put my Tim Tams in the fridge - it does add a little something to them! Thanks for the tip.

  12. The only time I remember my parents with a camera was once a year for family picture. I often wished my parents had been more with it concerning picture taking. Maybe then i would be more diligent with my camera. The shots I've missed because i forgot to pack my camera!! I love the mountains and would chose being alone in the mountains over sitting in Church any day! (Unless it was raining, or cold.) It was also a good memory to see a picture of your mom. Have a GREAT day!!
