remember when . . .

Do you have memories of being picked up still mostly asleep being carried to the car? Do you remember asking if you are there yet? Do you remember the little floating device that was relied on by parents who couldn't really swim very well?

Do you remember asking . . .did you bring my flip flops and beach towel? Did you bring my crayons, and coloring book?

Those were the good old days. I wonder who cleaned the house top to bottom before we left? That would have been my mom. Who packed the car up and the trunk with all the gear? That would have been my mom. We were remembering as a family a few days ago how until I was married our family home never had locks on the doors? Imagine that. Now we have locks and alarms and dogs and house sitters and farm sitters . . . .good grief.

I'm away on assignment for a bit, (smile) and when I return I'll be anxious to visit you all and see what I've missed. Our house sitters offered to keep you abreast of the going's on around here and it was a tempting thought but with these people you really never know what they will consider humorous and so I think I'll keep my password under wraps for now.

Okay I'm off to clean the house and wash the sheets . . . .woohoo.

  3. It is so neat to look back on memories, isn't it? And the only good thing about getting older is that we have more years of memory...to bad we run out of space to file them all!! ha-ha!
Have a wonderful 'break' and we'll miss you !!!

  5. The main reason I am a fan of the idea of "rapture" is that is would be the ONE time I can take a trip WITHOUT cleaning the whole house, and deciding what to pack!

Hey, I though you were already "gonzo"! And a package with Canadian postage arrive today. Whee! A Mystery to savor for a few days.

  12. I thought I was pretty faithful to read your blog but somehow I have missed where you are going on your trip. We had a group of MEI kids here for their spring break. It is crazy busy but we love when they come. I also love it because my friends send me treats. That would be that Fiona girl from the other blog and Brenda who she paid homage to today. It amazes me blogland threads so many people together. I am still hoping to get one up soon. Have a good trip.

  13. Well yes, I have often had those thoughts about all that my mom did because of course now it is I that do all of that stuff. Then I didn't appreciate everything she did, now I sure do. Have a great trip and get a nice tan.

  16. I'll look forward to your return.

I remember Dad carrying us in from the car, as we sleepily arrived home. Both mum and dad knew how to swim and taught us and we spent a lot of time camping, away, at the beach, and other wonderful places.
Yes, memories are good to revisit.

  17. Yes, I remember those days. When we would camping years ago, I was the one to assemble all the stuff and have it at the door when my husband drove in from work.

When my father-in-law died, the keys to the doors could not be located. New locks had to be installed to make my mother-in-law feel more secure.

Times have really changed or is it the people that have changed......

    Hurry back..........

  19. I, too, can remember being carried into the house after a long trip...or at least I assumed I was carried in because I mysteriously found myself in bed the next morning! My poor parents had to carry five of us from the car into the house! We were pretty much land-locked, and drives to the beach would have taken a couple of days, so all of our trips were north to my grandparents' home...what a treat! My grandpa told the funniest jokes and always tried to hide himself in a different place each time we arrived. My grandma always had a new craft to teach us, or would take us on little treasure hunts, or would take us to the 5 & Dime store where she worked. I love reminiscing about my grandparents!
