spring on the farm

Don't you just love it when you are outside and reach in your pocket for a Kleenex and find some chocolate that you put in there for a rainy day? I do that regularly. I have a little chocolate in all my purses and jacket pockets because I never know when my beloved will invite me to have a coffee. People I have lunch with are often treated to a little chocolate with coffee after lunch. You know . . .. its always good to be prepared .

What you putting in your trailer Mister? Ah yes, life on the farm. Lest you think that my beloved has plenty of time on his hands to play, I want to assure you there is plenty of jobs that literally stink.

So, this is as close as I wanted to get. I'm all about documenting life on the farm, and I fancy myself being a journalist of sorts but this picture was taken with the zoom.
Well, I'm off to have a walk, the swimsuit is hanging on my doorknob and the days left to prepare for wearing it are short, I best not sit in this chair too long. Have a wonderful day my friends.
PS . . . .from the farmer . . . ."lest you think that I drive that tractor all day long, there is plenty of shoveling by hand, those corners and nooks and crannies don't clean themselves between the driving and spreading. Why didn't you take a picture of that?". (wow, that was almost like an interview)

  1. Lovella, this is too funny...but this morning when I was returning from my walk, this most discusting 'farm smell' wafted up my mountain... It couldn't possibly have come form YOUR farm, could it??? smile

  3. I do know that a farmer works very hard and every day and you've always got to be on call in case something happens. Have fun with the smell!

  4. Also, I don't think you have anything to worry about in the bathing suit department. Remember when we went to Hawaii, you looked better in your 30's than we did in our 20's. I look back at those pictures and think WOW! Lovella has the flattest stomach. Really!

  5. Ok now Corinne, as I recall that was about what 13 years ago? Oh, it is so tempting to pose. Can you imagine?
Maybe a pool side picture, we'll see.

  6. Lovella, I'm known for hoarding chocolate as well. It works fine in the winter, but in the summer? Woops! I've had melted chocolate in my purse, in the glove box, and in my sewing bag. But, I never learn! I hide it away to save --- and if it hasn't melted, then share it with my dear ones --- who graciously appreciate it in all it's hardened and whitened glory. You see, I save it too long!

    Have a chocolate day!

  8. It must have been your farm that made my kids gag and close the car windows yesterday, while I was enjoying the lovely warm weather...I told them to 'get over it' and to be thankful for those farmers who 'stink' so we can eat...they gagged their way through my whole lecture...oh well.

  9. So...what's going into the field?
We think all the guys out there think driving farm equipment is just cool! Driving a laptop all day isn't nearly as fun.

And yeah, at least one pool side picture please.

  10. For you girls waiting for a pool side shot of Lovella, I will use her camera to get some shots of her for you. How convenient to have a friend along. Her and T can be in the pictures. It will be like having the paperazie close at hand for the best shot. Then, she can be the editor and post what she likes. That sounds like the kind of paperazie who looks out for her friend. She will look great, but even more, she will be fun to be with. Kathy PS I smelt it this morning too! What good growth T will have in his field:)

  12. Kathy, those pictures can be sent directly to me without the need of all the fancy-schmancy editing devices! Not that Lovella needed them to begin with!

I was carefully looking at the m-trailer & JD tractor. How can a real farmer have such immaculately clean equipment spreading that kind of fertilizer? He really is a super Mr. T! Does he plan his route in the field so he never has to drive with the wind? Just wondering. Have a fun day!

  13. Ok Kathy and Becky, . . .a plot has arisen and I'm not sure it was such a good idea for the two of you to meet and become friends,

I have plenty of material on both of you so settle down . .(oh boy, now I'm using Terry's favorite line)

Acutally Terry quite likes to drive into the wind, come back and hose off his tractor and then go again, ( I hope he doesn't read this . .. I love you)

  14. John Deere Green....gotta love it! Aaahhh, the scents of spring! We've got it here, too....a turkey farm is over on the next 40 acres, and when they do their spring cleaning...watch out!
As for hoarding chocolate...it never lasts long enough to hoard it! I've still got teens at home!

  15. We live on a farm although we rent the crop land out. When my husband raised livestock and I would comment on the scent when the wind blew from a certain direction,my husband would say "that smells like money!"

  16. Don't you find the chocolate melts in your pocket? I often find some in my purse that I'd forgotten about but mostly I have to keep it in a cool place.

  17. Ahhh...chocolate and manure in the same post. What a funny combination!

Doc knows where most of my chocolate stashes are, but I prefer the really dark chocolate so he leaves mine alone. I have some of his favorite milk chocolate in a special stash just for him!

For the record, I married a farm boy - he and his family raised registered Red Angus cows (they are beautiful with a charming personality!), planted several large fields (usually beans or corn), planted a yummy family garden, and Doc paid his way through college and graduate school by keeping tobacco farmers within federal regulations, so he usually came home covered in that yukky tobacco gum. Now we're homesick city folks. I just love your photos of the farm and all the hard work and activities!
