On March 4, 1978 I promised to love, honour and respect . . .
In sickness and in health . . . . .
For richer or poor . . .to submit ourselves, one to another . .
For better or worse . . . . And . . .I promised to give myself only unto Him. . . . Until death do us part. Every year I like to watch our archaic wedding video. Parts make me laugh, and parts make me cry.

Are those not the cutest flower girl and ring bearer? The flower girl is Terry's cousin Carmen who now has her own husband and 2 children. The ring bearer is my little nephew who now has his own wife and who I honoured last Sunday on their 1st anniversary. The candle lighter were my cousin Randy (they didn't have tuxedos in dark colors for small sizes . . it was 1978) The other candle lighter is Brenda who is Terry's sister. My bridesmaid on the right was my friend Elsie who I went to school with. My maid of honour is my friend Shirley who is the one friend I still see who I've known since birth.
My mom made my dress. I had seen one in the Bridal magazine and we copied it from there. It was made of organza instead of the chiffon suggested. I have no idea what happened to that magazine and I always wished that I had kept the original. On December 18 I was reading Jill's post and couldn't believe my eyes. Her dress was unbelievably similar to mine and she had a link posted that was exactly the dress. I had added the ruffle but the rest was so similar except that my mom made sure there was enough fabric so that I could wear a proper bra. Oh boy. The funny thing is . . .I copied down the link, thinking I would use it for my anniversary picture, and Jill would never know. Well Jill and I have become friends through blog land and so Jill will know. Thank you Jill, for doing the research.
We had a perfectly sunny but chilly day. Today, we are really very happy. I know I'm blessed. Our marriage is not perfect. We have worked to improve it and we have enjoyed marriage retreats all through out our marriage. We realize that anything worth something is worth a little effort.
My dad is waving goodbye. Like all parents do, he is wondering where the time went. My mom is looking in the window, loving that she finally (after 4 sons getting married) is the mother of the bride. Did I remember to thank you mom and dad for giving me such a wonderful day?
My lover said to me, "Rise up, my beloved, my fair one, and come away. For the winter is past, and the rain is over and gone. The flowers are springing up, and the time of singing birds has come, even the cooing of the turtle doves. The fig trees are budding and the grapevines are in blossom. How delicious they smell. Yes, spring is here. Arise my beloved, my fair one, and come away."
Happy Anniversary my beloved. I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.

It was nice looking at your wedding photos - we were married in 1979 - and so much looks familiar in your photos. Although I don't know you, it's always fun seeing and reading about people and places we have in common. I have memories of going out for dinner at the Harrison Hotel with a group of friends (that included Shirley) around 1980 and all of us couples trying to dance - I think we may even have received some applaude, from the many older couples, for our effort. Last time I saw Shirley, she had just moved closer to our part of BC.
ReplyDelete(Mist in the eyes, lump in the throat.) Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFinal lines from John Donne's lovely poem
"The Anniversary"
"Let us love nobly, and live, and add again
Years unto years until we attain to write three score; this is the (29th) of our reign."
God's Blessing on your next year, and on future decades of love.
(Score= 20 years. Go for 60!)
Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteNow it's our turn to congratulate you!
Happy 29 years! What great photos!
Have a great day.
Natalie & Ken
Wishing you both a very BLessed Happy Anniversary !!
ReplyDeleteYour wedding pictures are beautiful!! Make me miss your parents as I'm sure you do!! But I know they are looking down with smiles.
Enjoy your day , and may God truly bless you with AT LEAST 29 more!!
Wow what beautiful photos...and the bit where you asked: "Did I remember to thank you mom and dad for giving me such a wonderful day?" made me almost cry!
ReplyDeleteHappy 29th Anniversary!!!
Thanks for the comment, I knew that was Central!!! haha :)
Oh my goodness, seeing grandma and grandpa waving and looking in the window made me cry. How hard yet wonderful that must have been for your dad to let his baby go into the arms of a another loving man. Grandma looks tickled pink! Yet you can see a million thoughts are flashing through her head as you drive away. I agree with Ms. Millinery!! Go for 60!! Have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteLovella & Terry, you really are perfect for each other! You blow my theory to smithereens (is that really a word?!) about marrying young ~ you know that! I must agree with Yokoso, the line, "Did I remember to thank you mom and dad for giving me such a wonderful day?" moistened my eyes too. God bless you!
ReplyDeleteLovella, you made a beautiful bride. What a dress! - Your mom did a wonderful job. Happy 29th Anniversary to you and Terry. Enjoy your special day and many, many more loving years together.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your anniversary! Your photos are great! My wonderful hubby and I were married on May 20, 1978...our wedding was also in the colors of yellow and soft blue; I carried yellow roses, and my mother made my dress from a photo that I found. I love the similarities! May we all enjoy many more wonderful years together.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, Lovella! May the years ahead be as happy, and even happier, than those before.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy chatting with you. If you'd like, could you send me an email? My address is on the right side of my blog page.
Thanks,
LaTeaDah
Congratulations on 29 years!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post.
Absolutely beautiful! I loved the post. Happy 29th Anniversary! I hope and pray that You and Your Beloved will have many many more years together.
ReplyDeleteHappy 29th Anniversary...how cool and what a legacy for you to leave to your children. Enjoy Many, Many, Many more!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. Marriage is a LOT of work. But anything worth doin' is worth doin' right. And how in the world do people who do not know the Lord ever have a happy marriage?!!! It is hard enough WITH the Lord!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, Terry & Lovella!
ReplyDeleteMy two favorite pix are the one of your Mom (SO CUTE) & the one of my Dad marrying you...no wonder you're still so happy together :)
Vange
he did a very good job. Thanks RB
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteMy wedding photos were horrible...I'd dare not share them anywhere online, lol! Your's, however, are quite lovely. Hope you had a lovely day!
Well, the day has almost come to a close as it did this same date 29 years ago. Memories of committment fresh on the heart. Our frienship has so many wonderful connections. RB married us at that same alter wearing that same suit.
ReplyDeleteYour precious parents! Terry won their hearts, and he got a beautiful prize. I can't help but know that you expressed your delight in the celebration your parents gave you on that day. It is written all over your Mom's face. Your Dad knew you were in good hands.
Don't you remember how old people were to us who were heading into their 30th year of marriage! We just didn't know it could get sweeter! Happy Anniversary! PS- Old looks young on you both:)Kathy
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the picture of your Dad waving to you and your Mom looking through the car window. Those are GREAT pics. Happy Anniversary. I know I don't really "know" you, but you two seem to set a great example of what a marriage should be. If I ever get married, do you do marriage counseling? :)
