the diner and shopping

Yesterday my beloved and I were invited to join my brother and sis-in-law, Ken and Mary for breakfast at a '50's diner. What fun.
8 o'clock sharp. Ken was born first and I was born last. I'm sure that all parents when they raise their kids, say at some point to them . . "someday we won't be around and you will only have each other, you better become friends". If my parents said that, they will be feeling really satisfied with their advice, . . . we are friends, my brother and I. He chose well when he picked his bride. I was 7 when they got married. Mary has been my sister almost since I can remember. I love them both.

After breakfast, Bea (pronounced . . B . . ah) and I travelled into Vancouver for the day.

This was the view from the first appointment we had. It was a drizzly typical Vancouver day but the view was spectacular.

We stopped for a quick lunch at Tim Horton's. I was feeling the need to roll the rim, one more time. Sadly, it said "please play again". So did Bea's. Shoot.

I think the girl in Aldo was most confused. I was absolutely delighted to find this shoe and loved it so much that I wanted to take a picture of it and yet I could have cared less to try it on. The shoes that I owned in 1977 looked just like this, except that they were red and didn't tie up. They had a strap around the ankle and a little buckle. I guess the tie up is the 2007 version.
Anyone remember wearing these? I even remember how they gave my little toe a blister and I put a little cotton over my little toe to stretch that part out.

Bea found a sweet pair of black heels which I neglected to take a picture of since I was so fixated on my 1976 shoe memories.

Then, we began the task at hand. Bea was shopping for a nice pair of dress pants. She found them. She looked very classy which is handy since she needs them to teach her class.
After it was all said and done, we came home with a denim skirt for me (really exciting I know and a nice pair of dress pants and heels for Bea.
We then looked at each other and inquired as to where the other thought that we had parked. Hmm, I can honestly say I have never forgotten before, where I parked the car. Eventually it was found and we headed for home.

When we arrived home Bea made us all some hot chocolate, and she started to work on her quilt that she started before Christmas and is determined to complete on Spring Break.
It was a wonderful day, I hope yours was as well.
Well, its getting late, I spent some time here in between writing my post talking to a friend on the phone. It's all good. I still have time for my 30 minute walk.
Have a wonderful day my friends.

  1. Just wanted to let you know that I DID see your Bisquick rcipe! Sounds great! I love recipes that I can improvise with!
What a lovely day you have had! When I married Pete, some of his sisters were like 5, 6, and 7! (he comes from a family of 10 children!) We actually have one of his sisters living with us right now! Kind of nice, as she does help around the house and takes care of the chickens when I have to be away!

  2. Dress pants that FIT! Buy them in every color! She looks great in them, and Be-ah's class is lucky to have a teacher who cares about how she looks.

  3. Yes I remember those shoes. Except for I was only 6 or 7 years old and I had an older friend who had some like it but I wasn't old enough so I have always wanted shoes like that. I have been looking and they all seem to come with that tie thingy and with my shortish legs, well that just doesn't go so great. I'll keep looking. Glad you had fun shopping with your daughter in love.

  7. Ahh, there is much evidence of a day well spent! I agree with Jill, any time you can find a pair of pants that fit well, buy more than one! Bea will catch on to this tip, not that she needs it now. Wish I could have joined you but it was a good thing that I stayed close to home as our multitude of plans for the day were all tossed about in unexpected directions!

  8. I'm kind of stuck hanging out by our computer today (what a predicament! =), because there are carpenters, painters and an electrician working in the rest of the main areas of our house. After almost 20 years of living here, we are doing a major overhaul...new colors, new lighting, appliances, counters etc, and flooring, of course! What a mess right now, but hopefully it will be worth it. Anyways, out of boredom I keep checking blogs and noticed some names attached to a bouquet of flowers. Thank you! Brought a smile to my heart!
Isn't it nice to have a daughter to hsop with after all these years? I sure do appreciate my daughter in love and I think that we should go on a shoping trip too.

  9. Vancouver sounds like a great idea right about now. Nothing like a day shopping, especially when you find what you're looking for. I tried on a pair of shoes yesterday that looked almost identical to the ones in your picture... haven't bought them yet, but I have been thinking about it. Do you think my foot size will change in a week? We got to see the prized truck yesterday ... very cool, I might add ... but, we missed your smiling face at the house!

  15. The ivory color platform shoes with the ties are almost identical to my wedding shoes - 1977. I've been wondering if a girl in her 50s can wear that type of shoe one more time?? Not on a day with swollen ankles I was thinking!
