I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine

I fell head over heels in love with my beloved Mr. T in grade nine. Grade nine? Well, it was the end of grade nine. I wasn't old enough to date. We had to wait until I was 16 which was 9 months away. We met in grade nine English class. Our teacher was involved in a vehicle accident and we were left in a rather unruly class and a substitute teacher. We had plenty of time to visit, and so it began. Terry was unbelievably shy, I was not. I invited him to eat lunch with me and my girl friends on the soccer field, he came and ate lunch with us every day after that (with out another invite). That summer he rode his bicycle 10 miles to see me and we talked on the phone. The next spring when I turned 16 he invited me to go see "The Sting.
We continued to date through the rest of high school. After High School we got engaged and we married. Quite simple. Not always a breeze but never regretted. A good marriage takes a bit of effort.
One summer early in our marriage we were camping and we shared a Popsicle. Later I came back to the tent and saw this little sign hanging on the tent door. He made the little sign with a piece of broken glass and the sunshine. He thought I would like it. I loved it. I think it was maybe the most romantic sweet thing he ever made me. (The embroidered heart was my grandmother's pin holder)
I know we have something very special . . .not perfect, but special. We will continue to work to make our marriage better. I wish you all a Happy Valentines Day my friends. I sincerly hope that you are shown love today. "This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth and of insight." Philippians 1:9

  1. Oh my gosh...that is THE most romantic guy thing I can think of, using a magnifying glass on a popsicle stick! The jewelry stores have nothing on this!
    Happy marriage, may they increase.

(Blogger pictures, on the other hand, gave me fits as usual, but two hours later...ta-da! A rocky relationship I've got there.)

  3. When I read your post yesterday, I said 'amen' about realizing that it is not the 'hype' that defines your partner's love but the sincere random moments from the heart! Vic can be romantic but hates to to told he has too, so- yes, I was hurt in the early years of our marriage but then I learned to appreciate his sincere, unsolicited expressions of love. One that always comes to mind first is one very hot summer day when everything that could go wrong for me did..finally at the end of day when I was frantically trying to get supper ready..there was a knock at the front door. Knowing it was Vic ,I was annoyed that he would make me go open the front door when the back one was open. I opened the door to see him standing there holding the largest basket of the biggest strawberries I had ever seen. He doesn't like them but knew they were my favorite berry, and I had been waiting for them to be in season.
Happy Valentine's Day, to you Lovella and your childhood sweetheart!

  4. Hi Lovella. Well I had sheets hanging on the line on Saturday as well. Some friends I have think that is a very primitive idea but I could not live without my clothes line. Also Rudy and I started dating when I was only 14 and my parents let me. I will make our daughter wait.

Corinne, I know a lot of people read my blog who don't acutally blog themselves, thank you so much for letting me know that you are out there and encouraging me. I agree keep that daughter away from those boys. Smile.
Candice, thank you, its so great that as a young wife you understand that.
Cyn . .I became a Christian when I was 5 years old. I knew what it meant and I asked my mom to pray with me. I remember it as clear as a bell. Terry had made a commitment probably quite young but at the time we met he wasn't attending church. My parents prayed like the dickens. He started to attend church with us and became a solid believer. We've attended church together ever since. I can say with conviction that it has helped us to have a solid marriage.
