Kitsalano Beach and Swimming Pool, Vancouver British Columbia Canada. . . Once again I'm posting a few pictures of my grandma's postcard selection. I would sure love to know exactly when this picture was painted. It is so frustrating that there is no dates on these. What I do know is that I'd love a day at the beach right about now. The sun is shining today. Thank you Lord. My whole world seems just a bit brighter.
Siwash Rock and the "Empress of Japan" floating by. I have a few other pictures where it states the name of the ship floating by. Obviously there were not a lot of ships floating by in those days. I love that rock. I wonder if it is still there? I found a really great site of Stanley Park with some pictures of the history and also of the recent destruction of the storms. If you are interested it is quite a nice site.
Last time I posted some of my postcards "CityFarmer" suggested they may be from the 30's. I'm wondering about displaying some of my favorite pictures in my home. I was thinking of having them framed and hung. Any suggestions out there? I certainly don't want to damage them in any way. I just need to do something with them. They are in the original photo album but it is falling apart.
Last night we watched the State of the Union address. Well to be fair, I should say I watched it more than really listened. I love to watch how the Americans do this. I'm glad that we have the opportunity to see what not only our country does but what the rest of the world does as well. It helps us to be well rounded in our thinking, or does it? Maybe it just makes for interesting dinner converstaion. What do you think?

As soon as you posted the first postcard picture I thought they would be nice to frame. I like the U-Frame-It shop. They are really helpful with ideas and mat selection. I think the postcards would look great in a vertical frame - say three or five matted in a row. It makes more of a show on the wall than singles And it's less expensive to frame them grouped. I think you've got something special there.

Wow! I think I just spent a good 30 minutes looking at the Stanley Park Site. According to that the Siwash (sp?) Rock is still there. It does look different though. But beautiful just the same. Thanks for sharing. I think I would hold on to those postcards for sure. (I'm not creative so I don't know how I would display them)

ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about scanning them, enlarging, and printing them on acid free paper, then framing those to use in your home? Keep the originals between acid free sheets and away from the sunshine.
This month's (Feb) Martha Stewart's Living Magazine(that usually makes me feel sooo remedial..)has a frame idea using ribbon and upholstry tacks. Page 140. I loved the look, it would be perfect with a vintage look like your cards.
And your beloved Mr. T could whip those basic frames up in no time!
I think framing these antique postcards would be the best thing for them!!! Perhaps you could use a large picture frame, a Renassiance styled wrapping paper as a background then after laminating the post cards, with photo tape you could stick the postcards onto the glass of the frame. Oh and I agree with Kathy here too...although I would maybe try to find a frame that looks antique as well and has squared off sections, like a window might look. Well...what ever you might do I think will look great! And I can't wait to hear or see about it...

Jill, I think I'll ask them at a frame shop about the danger of sunshine ruining them. Perhaps they will suggest something along the lines you were thinking. and I have a quote from my beloved Mr. T for you "Lovella has no trouble thinking up projects for me, now she has additional help, I'm hooped." Does that mean he'll consider it?
Danna, I agree that the whole look would have to suit the age of the postcards, I was even thinking of keeping the black corner holders on.

Hi again - The frame shop will have acid free mats, tape and conservation glass - still it's a good question - what about light. Once Lando and I were at a gallery and one section of antique phtographs had fabric overlays over each framed picture. We had to lift the fabric to view the photo. At first I thought this was part of the art - making it interactive - then I realized it was more likely a conservation method. I'm not suggesting flaps for your livingroom - ha :)

He would be wise to make sure no one really knows where he lives, as other husbands are now getting grief because their wives want equally prompt responses to their own household projects, as modeled by Terry. I found it by browing on Pearls in a Nutshell (think that's the name...I get lost in the blogging world) I love your ramblings and I love the old postcards of Stanley Park. Yes, Siwash Rock is definitely still there. You should go to Stanley Park as soon as it's cleaned up. You would love the walk along the seawall. I've lived in BC all my life. Yours is the 2nd blog I've found from someone living here. I also loved your doll buggy photos! So cute! Have a great day. I hope summer comes soon!
