New Years Verse

We took out our tree yesterday.
It was so beautiful and sparkly in the house with it...
and now..I long for a bright light to replace what was.
My focus needs a re-shifting now that the book has gone to design.

Each year I choose a verse for the year.
This year I have chosen Psalm 103:1.

If I could just remember to praise God in my attitudes...
in my disappointments....when I am worried as well as when everything is going swell...
my life would be transformed.

He sees me inside and out
and yet in spite of that...in  his graciousness...
I live to breath again today.

Bless his holy name!

What is your verse going to be this year?

all for now...

  1. Lovella, I have never had a verse of the year. I'm not sure that just one would do. I do have a life verse and I did think I was doing well to have a word for the year presented to me on a platter. Ha! It seemed to glow there and I just knew that it was my word. I usually don't choose them either. So if a verse starts glowing for me, I'll know. It's always a bit bleak once the tree is gone...the spot you've shown us looks so cozy. Is that where the tree once was?

  2. That's a great verse, Lovella. I haven't chosen one. Love the tray you wrote the verse on, too. :)

  3. I just knew that tray would come to good use in your house!
My verse is "For I know the plans I have for your," declares the Lord,"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
I always feel it's a good verse for younger people.. but I'm going to take it as a verse now in my "older" age to trust God for the future still awaiting me.

  4. What a wonderful verse to choose! I haven't chosen a verse or word for 2013 but have been challenged by Pondside to change my motto from Bloom Where You are Planted to Grow Where You are Planted!
Your living space with the beautiful antique wardrobe looks very cozy and inviting. My tree will be coming down tomorrow - it's time! The room always looks bare but I like the fresh new look too.
Yippee the book has gone to design - how exciting!
Keep sparkling as you re-shift Lovella!!

  5. What a prominent place to put your verse. You will be reminded each time you walk into the room. It looks good where you put it. The verse I chose this year is..."Psalms 46:10, "Be silent and know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." In my busy life, I find this serves as a great reminder of what really counts in life.

  6. I chose a verse last year for myself, but haven't done so yet this year. One direction that I want to go in the new year is to learn better how to embrace change. We'll see how that goes!

I did choose a verse to pray over my niece who is traveling in the Middle East this semester. That verse will come to my mind frequently, I'm sure! It's Psalm 121:8..."The Lord will keep watch over your going out and your coming in, from this time and forever."

  7. I love the idea of choosing a verse. I've done that for a retreat weekend, but never for a year. The tray, with the verse - well that's just perfect, as you'll be reminded as your come and go.

  8. Great verse... and you can sing it as well :)

  9. A good verse to focus on for the year and an original way to feature it.
I'm still in the process of finding a verse. I like the fact that we are doing this each year. It keeps me on track and reminds me of God's faithfulness through out the year.

  10. Love that verse...so prominently displayed! I think I need to change the message on my tray...to one that is written in Psalm 16:11.

  11. Anneliese and I have the same verse!

Sometimes I wish I could get a fresh tree and decorate it with hearts for Valentines Day. Or maybe snowflakes. The dark winter evenings are nicer with a glowing tree in the room.

  12. Oops lost my comment.

Just wanted to say that I've never chosen a verse for a year but I joined the Romans' Memory plan with Ann Voskamp. I'm looking forward to meditating on those verses over the year.

Also, have you heard Matt Redman's worship song "10,000 Reasons"? - it's beautiful and goes very well with your verse.

I miss the lights of the tree too - it was especially beautiful this year. I think I'll take in a branch and put some white lights on it. It will be cheery over the long winter.
