Father's Day

I wondered yesterday how our life would be different if this Daddy had not survived cancer when the boys were little.

I would have raised those little boys alone.
They would have not remembered their daddy except for the few photos we had of them together and all the memories I would have retold for them over and over.

God would have provided for us in every way that would be important but humanely speaking I reflect on how blessed we have been to be a family complete with a Daddy.

I thought about all these things yesterday when we were playing with Grandgirlie and Little Miss Muffet and saw them delight in the teasing of Grandpa.

As far as they can see...
he is very excited to play all the games they can think of...
and no one is more impressed with semi executed cart wheels or how the  hoola-hoop momentarily swirls around a little girls waist.

I would have had to learn to be independent.
By now...I'd know how to properly wash my car and mow my own lawn.
I would live in town....and not on a farm.
I would be working . . .  and maybe not blogging.

I am very thankful that he survived and is part of the story of how we raised our family and are now enjoying our grown up children and grands together.

Together, we watch our sons having the privilege of a family and  I see in them a love that is a reflection of the example they have been blessed to know.

  4. This part of your story has always impressed me with the goodness of God, too, Lovella. I like the way that you say that God would have provided. He certainly would have done, but how wonderful that He restored your husband to you and the boys and his entire family.

Striking resemblances going on here. I believe the the Lil' Farmhand and Little Oh are brothers yet one looks much like his father and the other looks much like his uncle. Familial likenesses are so fascinating.

  6. Yes...the little boys faces show strong family physical traits, and those same boys as adults show strong family spiritual traits. I have often thought how much the cancer episode shaped and strengthen your marriage. I can't help but think that what was mean for harm God used to strenghten and for good.

  9. I still remember the young Marrieds Sunday School classroom we were in when one of you shared and asked for prayer ... which what we did in that class.
It is evident that God was not finished with his plans for you at that time.
So good to know that He is in control. I am thankful with you.

  10. I too remember the Sunday school class where we came around you both and prayed. God has been faithful....and you and Terry have been faithful in following Him. This was a touching post. Praising God as I read this that God has given you so many wonderful years. The boys have a dad they love and he is now enjoying their little families.

  11. I didn't know you during this time of your life, Lovella but I can imagine the fear and sense of loss you would both have had walking this journey when your boys were so young. I'm grateful with you that God chose to heal Terry and that you are living fully in the ongoing joys of companionship, love and being able to be grandparents together. Praise God for His grace.

  13. I am so happy for you and your family. This post strikes close to home as I think about my nephew who succumbed to cancer at 29 almost two years ago, leaving 2 little boys and a wife behind. God is so gracious and they are coping with life, dealing with their grief and moving ahead, trusting God for his strength everyday.

  14. I'm sure you and your husband have been so grateful to God for allowing your husband so many more years of life, Lovella, and that your sons apppreciated having a dad while they were growing up. Being a healthy grandfather now is truly a blessing! We do not know why God choses some young and allows others to live to old age, but we have to accept His widom.

  17. This post made me happy and sad at the same time. What a special tribute to your husband and what a sweet heart of gratitude you have for him. It was a reminder to me to stop and take time to appreciate my husband every single day. Thank you for that.

  19. I must not have known that part of your story before. Or maybe forgot? I'm sure that means you thank God even more for Terry just as we are even more mindful to be thankful of our little Laura. I'm so glad God spared his life!!! And that Father's Day present looks like so much fun! I happened to find Michael a band saw at a garage sale for Father's Day. He was so happy! He's been wanting one since he was 12. :)
