the color red

I have to be honest here. . declaring a year of Jubilee can really work in a girls favour.

I was gifted .. not once but twice with a trip to the spa. .

As I sat having my toenails dry . . .I suddenly remembered I had my camera in my handbag from the night before .. so I quickly snapped a picture whilst the room and I were alone.

When asked to select a color for my toes. . .I went with red. . .deep red.. . .actually called . .

OPI Romeo and Juliet.

I sat smiling .. .alone. .

thinking of the red boa hanging on the little wire dress form at home.

A sweet va va voom gift from Judy.

Judy's front porch saw us marching up the walk yesterday. . .

The cool farm air greeted us. .

and a warm welcome with the aroma of the most delicious flax seed bread. .

and soup. .which . . was our dinner.

OH dear goodness. . .give a girl a cake. . this little red raspberry number. . with eight delicate layers with red raspberry cream filling.

Oh Judy. . please post it soon. .

I have a birthday cake to make for a special girl. . and I know she'd love this one.

Thank you for the special evening cousins Elmer and Judy.

I love blogging. . I discovered a wonderful cousin I never knew I had.

Must run. . .it's a grammie day. .

All for now. . with love,

  4. I don't remember how I found your blog but I've become addicted to it and come every day. I especially enjoy the recipes. I live in Toronto and have always enjoyed Mennonite recipes. I love your photos too. Good choice on the nail polish.

  7. I've been enjoying reading about your jubilee celebrations. You sure know how to usher in a milestone birthday in style.

I made Judy's bread last week with some soup and loved it. I will be making it regularly from now on.

That cake looks so pretty and delicious. You can't go wrong with raspberries, as far as I'm concerned. I hope Judy will share that recipe.

  9. You just made me sad that my year of jubilee is over! I had a number of those gift certificates and got spoiled . . . now I think it's a necessity! =)
Glad you're still celebrating! Enjoy the next 11 1/2 months!

  11. The cake looks awesome. I'm glad you started with your toes and ended with the cake....The red theme suits well.
Enjoy! We're all wondering what the Jubilee year rings in for you.

  12. Red is perfect on you, Lovella. Who needs a red hat if the toe nails are red?

So glad you came for cake...and a 'cousin' reunion...but I'm thinking I should have sent some home with you! We are having cake...and more cake...over here! But we are finding something new to celebrate every day.

    I'll be posting the recipe...soon.

  13. Oh my! I saw that beautiful cake at Judy's, but had no idea it was yours! What a wonderful boa on the dress form...just a great idea for a gal enjoying her jubilee. And I love that OPI color! Lovely. I need to get out my nail polish and see if I can feel a bit more with it over here in the frozen Northeast.

  14. Wow, looking at the picture of your feet is just like deja vu. I just recieved my own first spa pedicure and chose what looks to be the exact same colour!

  15. Love all the red! Yes, the OPI polish is perfect --- they have the best! My choice is much the same (comparing) but with a tad bit more 'brown' in undertone. And that cake --- dreamy!

  16. Glad to hear that you're still celebrating - it's an inspiration.
Red is a great colour for toes! Arent' pedicures the biggest treat? Right up there with a facial or a massage, but I like that the results last longer.

  17. A belated Happy Birthday Lovella! That was a fantstic cake that Judy made for you --I can't wait for the recipe.

I just had to drop by and tell you how much I enjoy the "Mennonite Girls Can Cook" blog also.

  18. You sure know how to have fun. I hope that someday I will be as much fun as you.

Pretty color you chose, so feminine and a bit on the 'big girl' side of life. (I happy if I can wear earrings in the stage I am currently in, Avianna just loves grabbing, pulling and smiling all at the same time.)
