Daisy Melmac

We've been going through some boxes of camping equipment. . .thinking ahead to spring and lazy days of sitting at the campsite just relaxing. I hadn't seen this particular box for years and so when my beloved brought it in. .. I smiled a slow growing grin. All things from the late 50's and the 60's which really are where my memories are from. . .are particularly special .. .this my year of jubilee.

I shudder to think that at one point, I nearly sent these to the thrift store. These dishes were the ones that Terry grew up with and then after that they were assigned to our camping trips. We used them many times when our children were small. . .and now they've found their way back into our life

This melmac will see many more camping trips before we're done with them. . . . Those bowls have seen many breakfasts and many bowls of soup. . . and the little plates are perfect for sandwiches and a bit of toast.

Do you think I'm just a teensy bit nostalgic? I was asked yesterday . . .what plans we have to celebrate my jubilee. I'm celebrating today. . .and tomorrow and likely right until the last day of December. There will be many moments that will make this year memorable. . ..made in Canada aqua daisy melmac is just one part of the plan. . .

All for now. . .with love,

  1. I remember Melmac! I loved its durability. That's an especially pretty pattern.

Celebrating right along with you...although my year of jubilee has come and gone...I'm still celebrating the events in my life that are keeping me especially busy right now.

  2. Your joyfulness over celebrating your jubilee year is in stark contrast with so many. It's completely refreshing! Really, what reason is there not to celebrate?

Oh no...I did send all the melmac in my life packing long, long ago. Sometimes I see a set at a flea market, but it's not often. The colors are great and I know that Terry must love that you use them and appreciate them.

  3. I remember melmac dishes from my childhood, except ours were multicoloured....each kid in the family was colour coded. They have been long gone. Your dishes look very pretty still and so should be "good to go!" for many more years. Yeah! for more good times.

  4. Melmac brings back some long ago memories...almost buried. I think my mom's melmac likely landed up in thier RV in the sixties.

So when are you planning to unveil the new RV?

  9. Funny how colors come and go. These look pretty now again. They look familiar too! I'm sure my mom had some similar ones, maybe just a few plates or something. Love the year of jubilee!

  10. Too Funny. I still have some of those bowls in my camping box.
Just when you get rid of something, the kids jump up and say, "Remember those birthday stickers on the window?" I want them...and I have to say...they are gone..
It's good to have some nostalgic moments and memories.

  11. I do love things that last forever!
Melmac really was made to last forever...and in its durability it preserves the memories that are soo precious!

And I love your jubilee attitude! Perhaps you'll find it such a good year that when you come to the end of it, you'll see no reason to stop celebrating EVERY day !!

I love the dishes, haven't seen Melmac in years, Isn't it amazing how something as simple as dishes can bring back such wonderful memories.

  13. The mid-century cheerful post war colors! Very collectible. I recall my mom rolling her eyes when coming across items from her early marriage in antique stores. Guess what? Now that same experience is happening with us "mid century" gals. Hoo boy. Pass the unbreakable Melmac and pour me a cup of Sanka!

  14. I had a gold set - lost somewhere over the years - only 1 bowl left which somehow has become the kitties' dish :)

  15. Those flowers are so detailed! We didn't have Melmac at home, but I remember it from cooking class in school and friends' homes. Fun designs.

I am so sorry to read about your friend's death. He seemed like a really great guy and I'm certain Hilda will miss him incredibly.

  16. Yes, good ole melmac - our camping kit includes bright orange melmac with green-handled cutlery. What were we thinking???
It's funny, but the longer we have them, the more I love to see them when we go camping. In fact, when I travel for work I always tuck a bright orange cereal bowl and a bright green spoon into my suitcase for hotel room breakfasts.

  17. Those are so fun! Washing dishes while camping wouldn't be such a chore with those beauties to look at!

Growing up my had solid Melmac dishes. Some were brown, some were green & some were Flesh Tone! ICK!
