sloshing through the puddles.

When the rain subsided yesterday. . .I ventured out with my gum boots to see what I could see. From my front window. . it appeared there were no standing water issues. . .the neighbors raspberry canes were high and dry.

I walked out to the field behind the barns and saw where the water across the street had gone. Our ditch had turned into a canal .. . with the debris floating down stream.

I felt quite pleased that my boots were still water proof. Remember when you were a kid .. .and your boots always seemed to have a small slit in the sole? . . . . clearly I do less water slogging now. The ditch should gain some control. . . I can see where the bridge should be. . .the little poles poking up in the picture below. . .shows the bridge across to the neighbors property behind us. Normally that is the little bridge I walk across to take pictures of Mt. Baker. . . my boots were not high enough, and the clouds were not high enough either. . .so it worked out fine.
The rain warnings are less ominous now. . .10 - 20 mm more expected overnight.
Our house and barns are above the water level. We are thankful.
There will be many folks with basements full of water.
Today. .. I'm happy I don't have that basement that I often wish for.
See you Monday.
All for now. . . with love,

  1. I remember as a child how much I loved pulling on my boots and grabbing my umbrella and wading through the water while the rain fell. My boots usually contained more water than the puddles.

I probably won't feel this way in a few months, but I sure wish we had some of that rain here.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. I loved to wade through puddles and ditches - especially in the springtime. We were always building dams or floating stick boats down the ditches when the snow was melting.

We've been watching on the news - hope it dries up soon for you folk.

  3. Oh good news Lovella. Incredible floods your way...and yes....I too am thankful for you that that basement did NOT materialize..Ha!

  4. Count me in for slogging through puddles with you! My daughter and her friends used to have "official" puddle stomping days, so few were the rain storms in SoCal that puddles were noteworthy.

Glad the water level is going down. I'm not sure what a cubit is, and is there such a thing as gopher wood in the great up north anyway?

  5. Hokey Toot! That's lot of water!
With the warm weather we had right after Christmas, it melted the 2 feet of snow we got right before Christmas, and now our itty bitty dock in our pond is nearly under water.
    But...nothing like what you have!

  6. Whoa! that's a lot of water. I'll have to talk to #2 son and see if any water has seeped into our basement. Have a great weekend Lovella. I'm glad the rain is tapering off...

  7. You are right...it easier to sleep at night if there is no basement! Our pumps are keeping the water at bay...only a little has found it's way in. But I'm actually glad I'm not lying on an exotic beach somewhere right now...we need to be keeping watch at home.

My memories of puddle stomping...also remind me of boots stuck in the quagmire...and a barefoot trip out of the 'puddle'! Keep those boots on your feet.

  8. That made me smile - I remember that little slit in the boots and the feeling of the cold trickle through my socks.
I'm glad that you and yours are well and dry. Have a good weekend!

  9. I could have used those boots this morning on my walk. The good news is that as I was close to home, the sun started shining through the clouds. Now, there will still be the melting snow, but at least not rain. I'm glad you are okay.

  10. I loved sloshing through the puddles as a kid. I hoped to be back to my walks after a week of the flu today, but I couldn't find the energy to get out and jump a puddle or two. The sun is out! I'm staying in. So sad for our friends out here who are having serious water issues. We use to live in the area (actually) one of the houses that has alot of water. I feel so badly for all those people. I am glad you are dry too. Kathy

  11. That's quite a bit of water! Sloshing about in a great pair of rubber boots sounds really fun! My kids would love it too.

  12. For now, you have "waterfront" property! Glad you're still above "sea level" though. Lori T

  13. Oh man! You, too? Certainly glad that your property is above ground and that there is no basement for a river to run through...stay dry!

  14. one more note: since it is January, I keep thinking of your walking club last year and how I was just starting out on the exercise trail again (should that say trial?). I remember starting last January with 1 minute on the bike, and finding that hard. i'm so thankful that today I am able to do 25 minutes and plan to move up to 30! God is good!

  16. Oh my! The raging river at the back of the property!

I can remember loving to jump in the puddles on those rainy days! I'm sure the cousins will enjoy doing that next winter.

  18. The rain adds a little excitement around here but sure gets old fast doesn't it!! We actually got out for a walk tonight. It was nice to get some fresh air without holding an umbrella!
