wedding preparations

Two years ago just before this weekend we were in the last stages of wedding preparations for Terrence and Bea's wedding. I was in need of a chuckle this morning and as I was looking through pictures for their anniversary post, I thought perhaps you could use one as well.

If I would have ever thought these pictures would have made it into my blog someday, I would have worked my smile and my midriff would have been concealed. Oh well, if there is one thing I need is to learn . . . .it is to laugh at myself more.

I was in the completion stages of making the skirts for the four bridesmaids. There was some discussion as to whether or not they needed to be lined. After lengthy discussion I decided the only true test is the standing in the sun/picture test. I put on one of the skirts, went into the sun, deliberately stood unlady like and had my trusty assistant (Terry) take a picture of me. I ran inside put it on the computer and immediately ran down town to purchase lining. End of discussion.

The other item that I was working on was the "mother of the groom" outfit. As you can see, it was not beige. Not my color or my style. I had seen a top similar to this idea in one of the bridal magazines. I loved the layered look. You will be glad to know that the matching skirt came right up to my waistline and there was a matching coat to boot. As you can see we didn't quite have all the wrinkles out of it at that point.

This year the peonies are all open again. Two years ago we had buckets of peonies chilling in our cooler, begging them to stay closed a bit longer. Isn't it funny how we can plan and do all that is possible for every outcome and then still it's all left to God. Good thing, I'm thinking.

Well, I'll let you go now with a smile on your face.

  3. Nancy, I used a basic top pattern and added the layers on top.

  4. I remember the loving hours you devoted to sewing, and the outcome was nothing less than beautiful! You did right in choosing the eggplant color for yourself. You were stunning to say the least in the gorgeous outfit you sewed for yourself. It looked like something purchaced at an uptown boutique. I loved the 'getting it perfect' photos. It did bring me a chuckle. Ah yes to laugh at ourselves:) Kathy

  8. Thanks for the chuckle, Lovella!
The skirt and top are lovely and I'm sure the lining made all the difference!!

Speaking of flowers blooming 'on que'. In 1965 spring Vic and I bought dozens of gladiola bulbs and timed their planting so they would bloom for our wedding day Aug. 20th. They did NOT co-operate and we had to buy our flowers. We came home four days later from our honeymoon to gladiolas in full and beautiful bloom!!

  12. What I remember from that day is Kari and Bobbi coming to Ben & Chad's hockey game right after the wedding, with their peonie bouquets, and telling me all about the wedding. One thing that stood out was their exclamations about your gorgeous outfit and how beautiful you looked! I almost called you up when I was shopping for a mother of the groom outfit last year.
