is it summer yet?

Yesterday was just a beautiful day here. I read a book outside in the afternoon a bit. I walked around the yard and checked to see how the flowers are doing. This is my climbing lace cap Hydrangea. I'm not sure why, but most of my hydrangea's seem to have met their demise. I'll be having to do a serious pruning on them and then I'll see if they come back next year.
I wanted to show you the picture of the tulip tree in our backyard. The wind at our place either comes from the south west or else the north east. This picture doesn't even really do justice at how sloped it looks. Even the Alberta Spruce in front of it is a bit sloped.

My magnolia continues to bloom. It puts forth its first blossoms long before the leaves are seen and then continues to send out more blossoms into the early part of summer.

We decided to have Barbecued Hamburgers for dinner. Oh look, there was two extra, you should have come. For years we had a gas grill and then a few years ago we went back to the old fashioned charcoal briquettes. I love the smell of it. We reasoned out that though it takes a bit longer, we shouldn't be in that much of a hurry anyways. It gives us time to relax while dinner is in the making.

This was the first time that we really ate dinner in front of Indee. She was quite relaxed sitting on the porch and then when we sat down to eat, she managed to maneuver herself into the chair beside me. We just kept laughing because she just didn't take her eyes off my burger.
We thought the training we going really well. Karlee warned us a while ago that "she'll get stupid at four months". Oh boy . . . .she wasn't kidding. It's like she turned into a rebellious teenager. She knows the commands but chooses generally to run instead of sit. She prefers nibbling on my hand when I go to pet her. She performs her bang and she's dead trick quickly enough to jump back up and nip at your ankle all in one swift movement. We thought we may not even need puppy training school but we are starting to rethink that. We are having a lot of fun with her though. She has put a bit of spring back in Otis's step as well.
All right, I'm off for my walk. Have a wonderful day my friends.

  1. Those burgers look yummy!! It looks like you're enjoying some nice weather - all we've been having in Winnipeg is rain and clouds. Indee looks quite mesmerized by your burger, that's for sure :)

  4. Lovella, is there a difference between a tulip tree and a magnolia tree? I've been wondering and noticed your comment today.

    Enjoy a happy day!

  5. lateadah . .a magnolia tree has the tulip shaped flowers and a tulip tree has none. go figure.
I always used to call a magnolia tree a tulip tree but then we bought a tulip tree and realized we were mistaken. Are you following me? A tulip tree after many years (ours is now 10 years old . .will have some flowers in spring . .we haven't seen any on ours yet. If you weren't confused before .. .you are now.

Maybe someone else can speak more on this subject. Candice's husband might know . .Candice, can you ask Travis? (I'm laughing now)

  6. Indee is so cute... but as a puppy owner I can also agree with Karlee-they lose their brains for awhile, Olive is starting to round the corner on that one... but she's still a monkey! Your yard looks beautiful... summer seems to have finally come!

  7. Here in Argentina they pride themselves on their asado (barbeque). There really is nothing like it. There is a science to preparing the fire though and after six years my hubby is still trying to learn. I can definitely relate to the waiting. It is at least an hour before you can even put the meat on the grill. The way they cook the meat there is no need for barbeque sauce. You will just have to come down and try someday.

  10. According to your picture, I'd say it is summer! Ours is coming once the rain stops...still waiting to plant the garden.
BBQ'ing is definitely happening here...the burger looks delicious, Lovella! We too think that the briquets(sp?)result in a better tasting burger.

  11. Indee looks like a stalker ~ of grilled hamburgers, that is! ;o)

I learned something new about magnolias from you today. I have only been familiar with the creamy white flowers. Apparently that's what Google is most familiar with too when I search for *magnolias*, but when I search for *purple magnolias* I found the most beautiful range of purple blooms! Do your blooms have that sweet, almost lemony scent? Just curious because I love to discover new plants. Thanks! :o)

  13. Thank you for the weather check. Little detail I am constantly forgetting!
I really enjoyed Alaska. I went there for a week for my birthday in 2004, and met some intriguing people. Something special about going to places for your birthday, though.
You look like you had a wonderful day! It's good to be you!!!

  14. Love your charcoal reasoning. The picture of the dog staring at your burger is great. Such concentration...I think the North was warmer than the South yesterday.
