passing on the torch

I recall my parents saying before they went to be with the Lord. . .
that they desired for each of their grandchildren to have a family nativity scene once they had their own families.
They never had a chance to see our sons marry . . .
or to see their darling great grands. .
so ..
my beloved and I saw to it this Christmas that each family would have the nativity scene.
This nativity scene may not be put up high on a fireplace mantle. . .
or low under the tree where the prickly needles are. . .
but it will be where it can be reached and handled. .
and when you press the Angel on top of the stable. . it plays "Away in the Manger". .
. . .we are desperately learning the actions.
(and learning not to give a swipe to the shepherds while passing by the table)
Have a wonderful day my friends. . .
today is date day. .
just the two of us. . .

  3. How precious! I've never seen a Nativity set such as this!

Doc and I were discussing the other day when it would be appropriate for us to pass on some of our family traditions to our children (the stockings I made when they were babies, the child's Nativity set, certain ornaments, a special book, and so on), but we've decided to hang on to some things for a while longer. I guess we'll know when the time is right.

    Enjoy your day!

  7. That is just perfect! Where did you find such a child-friendly nativity? One of my made-in-Italy wisemen has been glued together for several years...grandkids love to play with them.

  8. It's a Fisher Price set that appears to be sold out everywhere on line. I'll be looking for it at stores, though, and praying. Thanks!

  10. Oh, the wonder of the stable scene.
Yesterday was Levi's day to assemble the stable. He loves it and yes, we are so privileged to be able to hand on the torch.

  15. Beautiful header Lovella! Love that nativity set. I always allowed the g'children to play with our set even though it wasn't intended for chubby little hands. They always handled them very carefully and I could tell the Christmas story to them over and over again..they did not tire of it!

  16. What a lovely tradition to pass along to your children. We do the same thing - always had a nativity that was child friendly. It was the privilage of the youngest child to put the figure of the baby Jesus into the manger on December 24th - a much-anticipated event.

  20. I bought that same one a couple years ago. So sweet and I love that they love bringing it out each year. I too, wanted something they could touch and handle and be 'theirs'.
