snuggles on the beach

We liked the spot right beside the lifeguard tower.
He liked that ladder.
His mom took great delight in stopping the climb up.

Hopping mad at the interruption...
quickly turned to giggles and smooches.

Little children...
little problems...
is what they say.

It's true.

I still laugh...
because he had completely forgotten what he had hoped to achieve.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be ...
nine months + 2 1/2 years pregnant?
I can't either...
and yet I wondered what it would be like ...
that day on the beach.

There was a conversation I couldn't hear...

but through the lens of my camera I could see it was sweet.

I doubt they knew I was there.

It seems that there should be some award for the snuggliest on the beach.

Ah...
but even when you are a grammie and grandpa...
you still sometimes find that one beach chair is better than two.

Have we nearly exhausted all the possible beach topics already?

Nearly..

Tomorrow we'll take a look at the craft hut!

all for now..

holding meetings and hands and good value for a magazine purchase

I found it fascinating to watch the close interaction between cousins...

Dad's and their kids...

siblings...

and sometimes...
I just walked behind them as closely as I could...

trying to listen to conversations...

and enjoying the close bond they clearly share.

My beloved brought along one Classic Truck magazine.
He didn't think he'd have time to read a book and by the end of the trip we all knew that magazine inside and out.

Little Oh...
insisted on having it read.....
many times.
I learned about good welds and bad welds and the best welds.
I told the story about the old rusted car that came out of the old barn and was carted on a trailer to become a rod.

The pages were already coming out and he knew if one was missing.

After dinner in the evenings...
the children walked back together in the dark.

No one told them to hold hands...
they just did because they wanted to.

There was some cuddling on the beach too..
and I'll share some of those next week.

all for now..

8 X 10 glossy photos

One of the more entertaining parts of the beach fun was the on site photographer that came by each day with an assortment of live photo ops and ideas for staging family fun times.

They are not particularly fond of parents in the background taking photos of you taking photos of them taking photos of your kids.

What they don't realize of course...
is that they are part of memory of our vacation for these children.

Hearing them encourage the children to get on top of "mammy and pappy"...
and see them demonstrate the angles was most amusing for the parents and the children and of course for those of us who documented it all from our beach chairs.

When the photographer had them stacked up to his satisfaction he clicked away all the while calling out encouragement that only made them laugh because of the words he chose.

Why go to the zoo and look at funny monkeys when they arrive on a leash to visit with you?

The children lined up to take their turn...
feeling both nervous and excited and of course a few glossy photos from the shop were paid for and carted home in a photo envelope for them to show classmates and other little friends.

Who would believe that boy if he told a total stranger that he entertained a monkey on his head last week?

This I know...
when I visit them at their house...
their stories of lizards and monkeys and parrots will be described with great animation and they will be pulling out their 8 X 10 glossy photos which show them to be brave and fun little children!

Tomorrow...
meetings on the beach.

all for now...

a little rain doesn't bother us

If you know me...
you know I get a little excited when a storm is brewing.
I've been told that either a person is better or worse in a windstorm...
and I kind of guess...
I'm better.

While others ran for cover in the warm sunshine rain..
we all stayed put on the beach.
While others stood under canopies waiting for the shower to end so they could walk back to the beach...
we happily headed back to the beach in the rain...
since we didn't seem to stay dry on the beach regardless.

A beach big enough for a resort full of people and 11 people using it...
is not a bad thing.

Now...
I admit...
using a kindle is better when your surroundings are dry...
so I was prepared for that as well.

Remember him?
He kept busy collecting rain water.

You can just never tell when you will need a drop...

to drink...

and catch with a pink little tongue.

OH.. look..
someone else on the beach must of had a camera and caught the umbrella ...
turned inside out.

Good times!

Let's see...
what should we talk about tomorrow?

There was plenty of photo bombing too...
in a sneaky kind of way!

all for now..

sunscreen and lip balm

While we were saving lounge chairs at the beach...
the sunscreen was applied before any fun in the sun commenced.

The women were definitely in charge of making that everyone was well protected.

The best splurge I purchased before going was a couple of solid sunscreen sticks.

Every few hours...
little ones were called back to get a fresh application.

It worked well and was easy to apply.

Everyone wanted a chance to apply.

And then there was this guy.

He has a thing about borrowing my lip balm...
at home...
and apparently on vacation.

I couldn't keep track of how many times he came to reapply.

When he finished reapplying to his own lips...

he made the rounds and we all got to have our lips ... balmed.

The good news...
is that he introduced a bit of sand in his applications so our lips were not only well balmed...
but also no dead skin had any chance to linger.

Tomorrow..
the photos of what Canadians do when it rains on the beach.

all for now...

sand

Who can go to the beach without playing in the sand?
Everyday...
there was a fair bit of serious digging and sculpting by the kids...
big and small.

Tunnels ...

Snowman...
and lots of turrets.

Even after the littles lost interest...
the grown ups stayed to complete the daily project.

The demolition crew was always near by...

and sometimes they found themselves ...
buried.

The little sand angel was always near by.

Sometimes...
mermaids would appear on the beach.

These days reminded me of when our boys were little.
We would camp with friends and the dad's were always on the beach then...
playing with the littles...
and this holiday was no different.

On top of beach play duty...
my beloved would get up at six to save front row beach chairs.

I held the camera...
and saved a spot on my lounge chair for rotating visits.

Tomorrow..
we'll talk about sunscreen and lip balm.

all for now...
